Breach of faith and trust
To the Editor: According to your article “Fires Broadside”, you stated the water department could not ‘pump that much water for $22.50". MISTAKE! The $22.50 to $2°4.00 charge increase was not water rates; it was ONLY Sewage rates. The water bill was and is completely separate from the sewage rate. Therefore, the facts in your article were not correct. You also mentioned I was the first to “protest" the new ordinance. Hog wash! I was the first to "publicly” protest but there are many local citizens and taxpayers who are not at all happy to be paying more for utility services. If the taxpayers "protest" a hike in rates it's because they have a vested interest in their community and feel the local governmental
A tribute to Ruth Meredith
Dear Editor, The Syracuse Ladies of the Round Table will long remember our very dear friend and member, Ruth Meredith, because she was special to each one of us. The Lord blessed Ruth with many gifts and talents and she used them well. We all looked faward to going to her hone when she entertained our club. She was a very gracious hostess and her home was like a museum filled with beautiful antiques so attractively arranged throughout every room. She shared her smiles and keen sense of humor with us and always knew just the right thing to say and when to respond. She was a find Christian lady. She has touched the lives of hundreds of children in the Syracuse community during the many years she taught in the public school here. She was a dedicated teacher, loving and understanding all her pupils and being an inspiration to her fellow teachers and many friends.
public servants must justify those increases. Otherwise, does it not appear “unjust”, and a breach of public faith and trust? Lastly, you stated I was angry. I may have been concerned, serious, frustrated and intense but I was not angry. I was and still am simply stating my case to the town board and their lawyer. I trust they will see their error and change the ordinance without the fuss and effort they will surely expend if they do not change the ordinance. A town must be governed by reason and equality in its efforts to provide the essential services to its citizens . . . this is all I ask’: reason and equality... otherwise we stray away from the democratic goals and ideals upon w’hich our country was founded. Thank you. Ron Vestal
We re very glad we knew Ruth Meredith — her Christian friendship has enriched all our fives.
