Girls to meet Penn Saturday [ Coach Jack Marlette's Wawasee Wajrriorette basketball team will travel to Goshen next Saturday whjere they will meet Penn at 2 p m. in the regional tournament Last Saturday the girls brought home the sectional trophy after defeating the girls from Fairfield Marlette said Barb Brouwer. Tammy Ijchumm, Betsy Williams and Kathy Replogle will start on Sati|irday with the fifth girl to be named later She could be any one of the remaining team members “Penn athletes are good, hard competitors Marlette said. He continued by saying he doesn't know much ibout the Penn girls and neither no his Warriorettes, however, he continued. “They're all good from now on. to have gotten this far.” “The Warriorettes will have to be ready fir everything They’ll work on all aspects of the game during praclice." NLC Wrestling tourney won by Warsaw Tigers
By J(|AN BVLETTY Wawasee high school hosted the Northern Lakes Conference wrestling tourney on Saturday, Jan. >3l There were eight schools that participated in the tournament They were Bremen, Concord, Manchester, North Wood, Plymouth. Rochester, Warsaw and Wawasee Warsaw placed first with 1034 points; North Wood, second with 102. Plymouth third with 994; Manchester, fourth, with 964; Wawasee placed fifth, with 59 points; Rochester was sixth with 43; Concord, seventh, with 234; and Bremen finished eighth with 94 points.; Korenstra Champ Phil Korenstra was the champion cf the 179 pound class He defeatei Ron Weatherholt of Concord in his first match He continued by defeating Darrel * Hochstetler of North Wood Korenstra finished it off bywinning the championship match over Rochester's Blaise Horban Mitch Ousley . Wawasee hockey team defeats Concordia
The Wawasee Laker hockeyteam scored an impressive 3-2 victory over Concordia high school of Fort Wayne, in hockeyaction Tuesday night at the Gunner Elliott Ice Arena. Wawasee freshman Vince W illiams put the first goal in the net for the Lakers at 4:50 of the first period erf play. Wawasee high school junior Stan Kroh. op a long break away, put the puck past the Concordia goal-tender for the second goal, while junior Steve Wilson scored from in front of the net on a crisp pass from junior Jim Willits. In the final two minutes of play. Concordia pulled its goal-tender in a final effort to tie the game. Freshmen stopped by host North Wood The Wawasee freshman basketball squad, coached by Ted Mahensmith and George Vitaniemi. participated in the freshman four-way tournament at North Wood high school on Saturday, Jan. 24. In the morning game, the Warriors defeated West Noble, 50-34. Mark Lantz and Dave Stoffel led the scoring with 16 and 10 points respectively. The rebounding was very even. Dave Stoffel, Andy Brown and Kevin Smallwood each grabbed five. In the championship match Wawasee went against North Wood and lost by a close score of 53-58. The shooting percentages were 50 per cent for field goals and 54 per cent on free throws. Mark Simpson headed up the high scorers, notching 20 points. Jay Kaiser added 11 more points. Qnce again, the rebounders stayed even once more. Mark Lantz. Mark Wagoner and Dave Stoffel pounded the boards for five each. Defeat Plymouth Tuesday, Jan 20, the frosh basketball team defeated Plymouth 53-50. The Warriors shot 53 per cent from the floor and 79 per cent from the charity stripe. Mark Simpson bucketed a giant total of 28 points, while Mark Lantz piled up 17. Lantz was also the high rebounder with six. Wrestlers have a good season The Warriors stomped the North Wood grapplers 30-24, recently. Varsity coach, Ray Reid, comments. “It was a fantastic team effort. All the boys wrestled extremely well.” Three Warriors won their match by pins. In the 177 class, Phil Korenstra pinned his opponent in just 1:50. Steve Hoopingamer, 119, got the pin in 3:10. In the Heavyweight class. Mitch Ousley pinned his man in 3:54. Other Warriors decisioned their North Wood opponents: Ronn Beer, 12-3, Rick Bauman, 11-6, John Beer, 6-4. Mark Wilkey tied his man, 3-3. The junior varsity team also defeated North Wood, 32-31. Jim Glon got a pin on his opponent in the 145 pound class. Other winners were Kevin Marose. 10-4; Craig Luttman, 135; Mike Clark, 10-2; and Scott Moore, 10-5. Dan Andrews and Phil Beer both won their matches by forfeit. Stop Concord The Wawasee wrestlers went against the grapplers of Concord high school and won by an overwhelming score of 55-6. Getting pins for Wawasee were Jim Shock in the 155 and Phil Korenstra in the 177. Joe Gerencser captured a win in the 105 class, 22-8. Hal Hammaker blanked Hundley of Concord, 17-0 and Steve Hoopingamer zipped Peterson, 4-0 in the 119 class. Vince Gronendyke also, blanked his opponent, 13-0. Ronn Beer decisioned Mann of Concord, 4-1, while Jim Glon captured a victory in the 145 class, 10-8. Rick Bauman stopped his man. 12-0. John Beer tied Shedrow. 4-4 in the 185. Stopped by Warsaw The Wawasee wrestlers were defeated by Warsaw on Tuesday, Jan. 27, by an edge of just one point 29-28. Winners were Steve Hoopingamer. Ronn Beer, Mark Wilky, John Beer and Phil Korenstra.

A number of Wawasee wrestlers will travel to the regional tournament at Fort Wayne North on Saturday, having won the right to do so at the sectional last Saturday. Wawasee placed second over all in the sectional with 109*i points. Milford 7th grade captures tourney, ends season 14-2
Milford’s junior high seventh grade basketball team won their own four-way tourney this past Saturday in the Milford gym. Bremen. Triton and Wakarusa were the other teams competing. In the first round action Milford defeated Wakarusa 41 to 31. Jeff Sylvester scored 16 for the Trojans. Tom Troup added nine. Larry Dubbs scored 12 for Wakarusa and Brian Eby 10. Bremen won the other morning game by beating Triton 37-35. Triton defeated Wakarusa 49 to 30 to take the consolation game. The championship game saw Milford defeat the Bremen Lions 31 to 18. Bremen led eight to four at the end of the first quarter. Milford came back to take a 12 to 11 lead at the half-time break. The Trojans extended the lead to 18-13 at the end of the third quarter. The final quarter saw the Milford squad outscore Bremen 13-5 to make the score 31
