Wawasee captures third straight in final seconds

By JOAN BVLETTY Bob Heady’s Wawasee Warriors captured their third straight victory Friday night as they defeated Goshen 63-62, in a real thriller. The final seconds of Friday night’s clash .were enough to make anyone f. appreciate the excitement of basketball In the last five seconds the Goshen Redskins held $ slight leadof 6261. when Kirby Thompson stepped up to the foul line for them and bloopjed both attempts to stretch their jonassurable lead. Wawasee hockey team suffers an 8-4 loss

Decreases noted in unemployment

The lack of significant new layoffs and the recall of workers from various holiday shutdowns contributed to statewide decreases in initial and all types of continued unemployment insurance claims last week. John F. Coppes, director of the Indiana Employment Security Division, said that the 138,580 total was down 16.610 from the previous week. Initial claims were 30.6 per cent fewer at 11,797 while all regular claims numbered 81?063, down 9,554. Mr. Coppes said 20,755 ex-

Seventh grade wins tournament

The Milford junior high seventh grade basketball won the Lakeland four-way basketball tourney held at Syracuse this past Saturday. The Trojans defeated Syracuse in the championship game 46 to 40. In the game Paul Steury scored 14 points to pace the scoring attack. Brett Grove added 12 points and Jon Wiggs 10. Milford led 10 to 4 after the first quarter. 25 to 12 at half-time, and 36 to 23 at the end of the third quarter. North Webster took the consolation game from Pierceton 30 to 23. The two tourney victories by Milford gives them 11 wins against one loss for the season. The Trojans, coached by Rich Bender, have four games remaining this season. They host Warsaw January 26, travels to Syracuse Thursday, Jan. 29, and then host a four-way tourney Saturday, Feb. 7.
