New tax credit gives break to all taxpayers

Everyone who pays Federal Income Tax for this year has at least one tax break coming. And it doesn’t matter whether the taxpayer files a long Form 1040, or short Form lOOOA, or how much the taxpayer earns. The break is the personal exemption tax credit. Effective for only 1975, the credit amounts to S3O for each regular exemption to which the taxpayer is entitled. However, individuals who claim additional exemptions because they are blind or are 65 years old or over, may only claim one S3O credit for themselves. How dots the credit work? children, for instance, Mr. and Mrs Brown. They file a joint return. When completing their return, the Browns will count two exemptions for themselves, and one for each of their children, for a total of five exemptions. They will multiply the S3O credit per exemption by five to come up with the $l5O total credit that they’ll write on the front of their tax return and subtract from their tax. The new credit does not affect the $750 * allowed for each exemption when figuring taxable income. For example, the Browns will still multiply the $750 by five and subtract $3,730 from

their income. Information on the personal exemption tax credit will be in the instructions for both the 1040 and 1040A tax packages to be mailed out in December. Taxpayers who have questions about the personal exemption tax credit or other tax matters can visit local IRS offices or call tollfree 1-600-382-9740. Dear Editor: When the conspiracy came up with the word detente it was a great boon to the communist, because it is synomous with, amnesty and discrimination against the enemy. To free America detente means defeat not victory. Detente renders the communist unbeatable. In the words of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Nobel Prize winner, in his dramatic warning to all the world and to Americas in particular. He laid bare all the acts of deception and lies in their dealings and with U.S. and denounced the many senseless concessions made to the aggressors in the Kremin. John Birch District Rally. Eight

Think ahead when buying toys

By LOISM. GOTWALS Think ahead before you buy toys for Christmas giving and buy the “just right” toys for your child’s enjoyment. Is it colorful, not too large, no small parts to get into the ears, nose or mouth? Also, what can your child do with it? Can he change it, take it apart or create with it? Having too many toys even if storage space is provided for them, may cause frustration for both you and your child. Choosing the correct toys is a challenge and these guides from the Indiana Fann Safety council may be helpful. For children under one year of age choose brightly colored objects hung on a mobil, sturdy squeak and rattle oys, washable stuffed dolls with embroidered eyes, soft colored balls, cups or smooth non-breakable objects to chew on. Avoid toxic, heavy breakable toys, sharp edges which might cut or scratch, and small parts that might become loose and be put into ears, nose or mouth For children between ages one and two, choose rubber or washable squeak toys and soft stuffed dolls or animals, blocks with rounded corners, push-and-pull toys with strings or round handles, and nests of blocks Avoid small toys which may be swallowed, flammable objects, toys with small removable parts, and stuffed animals with glass or button eyes. For children between two and three years of age choose sand box with bucket, shovel and spoon, large peg boards, wooden animals, cars and wagons to push around, tricycles, large crayons, low rocking horse, small chair and table and simple musical instruments. Avoid anything with sharp or rough edges which will cut or scratch, objects with small removable parts, marbles, beads and coins For children between the ages of three and four choose broom and carpet sweeper, toy telephone, dolls with simple wrap around clothes, doll buggies and furniture, dishes, miniature garden tools, trucks, tractors, nonelectrical trains, drums and building blocks. Avoid toys which are too heavy for child’s strength, poorly made objects which may come apart, break or splinter, sharp or cutting toys, electrical toys. For children between the ages of four and six choose blackboard and dustless chalk, simple construction sets, paints and paint books, doll house and furniture, small sports equip-
