In announcing her appointment. Dr. James M. W ilson, president of the board of directors of the local American Lung Association said. '‘Vikki Carr’s genuine concern for the rights of the nonsmoker has been given great visibility this past year as she has traveled coast-Uxoast endorsing the American Lung Association's strong position on the harmful effects of second hand smoke”. During the 1975 Christmas Seal campaign. Miss Carr will utilize the media and her inperson appearances to remind the public that their individual contributions finance the battle against emphysema, tuberculosis, asthma and chronic bronchitis, as well as the lung crippiers, cigarette smoking and air pollution, James E. Sather. 27, of r I Leesburg was charged with attempted assault regarding an incident involving a 14 year old
girl in Syracuse last week. Sather stopped the vehicle he was driving and attempted to entice the girl into the car. She refused and he drew a shotgun and threatened her. The girl fled the scene but noted the license plate number of the vehicle and gave police an accurate description of the car and driver. Sather was arrested Wednesday. Nov. 12. Authorities set damage at SIOO to the front of the truck and S4OO to the rear of the car. The Lowry woman complained of a whiplash. IRS extends telephone help INDIANAPOLIS — To help all taxpayers get an early start on their 1975 federal income tax returns, the IRS today urged Indiana residents to take advantage of the extended hours of its year-round toll-free telephone service for tax help. James W. Caldwell, IRS district director, said Indiana taxpayers can contact the IRS by dialing the taxpayer service number shown in their telephone directory. This service is available Monday through Friday from 8 a m. to 8 p.m. EST and should prove a real boon to persons who must work during normal duty hours. The toll-free lines are staffed by taxpayer service representatives. Mr. Caldwell said these employees have been specially trained to answer a wide variety of tax question ranging from the simplest to some of the more complex or technical areas of tax law. Mr. Caldwell urged taxpayers to start getting their records together now and call for answers to their questions using the taxpayer service available by phone after 4:30 p.m. when phones are least busy. Minor mishap at high school drive Minor damage was reported in a two-vehicle collision at the Wawasee high school drive at 3:15 Monday afternoon. Both vehicles were leaving the parking lot as the Shipley auto collided with Plummer’s vehicle which was already northbound on the highway. Goshen, has been a first place winner in the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing > regional contest held November 14-15 on the campiis of Bowling Green university. Bowling Green, Ohio. Approximately 258 students of voice from the Ohio. Michigan, and Indiana area participated. A total of 49 teachers of voice did the judging, with three judges per group. The participants sang for judging in first division on Fridav night, followed by another elimination judging Saturday morning Three finalists from each group again sang for the entire judging staff oa Saturday afternoon. The finalist who compiled the greatest number of votes from the 48 judges was winner of the first place award aad a cash prize. ICC! secretary talks about state’s threatened wildlife
Jim Rice, executive secretary of the state conservation council, Inc., was guest speaker at the scheduled November meeting at the Turkey Creek Conservation club meeting at the clubhouse last Thursday evening. A filmed program was presented, bringing attention to extinct. endangered, and threatened wildlife species, many being common to the Indiana area. The council is a non-profit organization involved in production of conservationoriented information and materials for study. Many of these programs are distributed to schools, scouting and other public organizations throughout the state. The council is also an active lobbying group and has been instrumental in reflecting views of conservation to the state legislative bodies. The ICC I is currently asking for conservation to be taught as a required subject in all state schools in an effort to make young citizens aware and active in conservation.
