HERO OF THE EVENING — The two photos above show Wawasee'* hero of the evening — Rick Bauman — as he carried the ball on two occasions. Rick, a junior, scored four touchdowns and ran for 24» of the Warriors- 416 yards to give the Warriors a 38-7 Victory over Manchester. Rick made his 21 carries, one for « yards and a TD. He averaged 16.1 yards per carry. He also caught a 14-yard touchdown pass. The photo on the left shows Rick as he rushes toward the goal line. In the photo on the right he meets with opposition from a Squire as he struggles to gain additional yardage.

Warriors demonstrate strength in 36-7 victory over Manchester

By JOAN BVLETTY The Wawasee Warriors, coached by Hal Traviolia, demonstrated their brute strength in a victory over Manchester last Friday night. 367. in a fine-football game at the Manchester field Rick Bauman had a tremendous night once again as he accumulated 249 yards m merely 21 carries Quarterback, Keith Cripe, also put on a fine show in passing He connected 10 of 18 attempts to tally 105 yards These two jamng juniors used their one-two punch to stop the Manchester Squires dead in their tracks Starting the game off. Burgess fumbled the ball on only the third play by Manchester and Warrior, Todd Haines jumped on the ball Two carries later Bauman finished off his task by scoring from the 15 Sophomore Brian Smith added the extra point by his fine kick Then. Manchester slowly inched toward the Wawasee end zone with the help of a Warrior penalty. Tim Olinger ran from the 38 to within inches and then scrambled across the line to score the Squire's one and only touchdown Burgess kicked the extra point The Warriors then decided that that would be it for Manchester and they took complete charge of the remainder of the game Bauman came through to return the lead to the mighty Wawasee tribe with only 1:38 left in the first quarter The second stanza began with a punt to the Warriors, which Spearman returned to the 15 Cripe hit Wes Bell. Bauman. Steve Kroh and Dan Walker for passes to move the tribe down the field and then he shot a bullet to Bauman from Manchester's 14 Smith split the uprights for the extra point This only started the scoring drive by the tribe The

Squires fumbled on their first play and Bill Rensberger recovered the loose pigskin. Nine plays later. Cripe scored on a quarterback sneak to up the score to 28-7 and the players marched to their dressing room with this lead In the second half the offensive line really charged forward After three plats, the ball was bobbled and the Squires recovered and were in possession Cripe relinquished his position to Larry Allen Fumbles were made and recovered by both sides and then Bauman was finally close enough to score on a nine-yard run Allen continued to pilot the team throughout the third stanza and a fraction of the fourth when he handed his position over to Bnan Smith who guided the tribe for the remainder of the game Both reserve quarterbacks did a good job. but failed to provoke any further scoring. The defense was by far a stronger part of this game, as they held Manchester to a scant 80 yards Sophomore Ted Knudsen had a terrific pass interception and hit the Manchester quarterback for a 15-yard loss and Dave Ruth also hit Olinger for an eight-yard loss Nelson Preston must be noted for his fine blocking which aided the tribe's running and scoring. Preston also had two tackles and four assists Bill Rensberger had one tackle and six assists. Larry Allen made two tackles and five assists, while Mark Wilkeytackled twice and assisted three times Bauman was the leading rusher with an average of 10.1 yards per carry Walker gained 31 yards in five carries and Stan Kroh chalked up 12 yards in four carries. Dennis Spearman was the leading receiver with 49 total yards in just four catches Bell had 20 in three catches and Steve Kroh caught two passes for a 22yard total The Warriors are now 5-1 in the conference and 7-2 overall They will entertain North Wood next Friday night. North Wood is rated fourth in the LC with a record of 4-2 in conference and 6-3 overall

He connected 11 of 16 passes to total 138 yards. However, the defense was a bit lazy at times, giving up a touchdown and two extra points via weak pass defense. RECORD BREAKING SWIMMERS — These Wawasee high school swimmers, front, left to right. Teresa Carpenter and Mariys Staley, with Deh Doty and Lisa Bosstick, tap row, left to right, are the record breaking swimmers of the girls swim team. So far they have broken a total of nine records. The medley relay has broken the’school record three times. In individual records. Mariys Staley has broken the 200-yard freestyle, the 200-vard individual medley, the 50-yard butterfly and the 106-yard butterfly Teresa has broken the 280-yard individual medley; and Lisa has broken the 50-yard freestyle. These girls, plus the rest of the swim team totaling 36 members in all. are predicting to break these records several times this year.

Swimmers victorious over LaSalle and Tippecanoe

Oct. 20. the team beat South Bend LaSalle 118-100 Last Monday the girls were victorious over Tippecanoe Valley 158-56 in an easy meet for the experienced Wawasee team. Wawasee attacks West Noble 16-12 By JOAN BVLETTY The Wawasee junior varsity football team attacked West Noble last Saturday 16-12. The defense was outstanding, in holding West Noble to four yards passing and 114 yards rushing. Ted Knudsen led the defense with four tackles and seven assists and was followed by Kevin Butcher with four tackles and three assists and Bill Martindale with two tackles and eight assists. Steve Cromer intercepted a pass. The two scores by West Noble were set up by two Wawasee fumbles on the one-yard line. Wawasee scored on a 41-yard pass by Brian Smith to Steve Cromer, with the extra points made by Lon White. Smith scored the second touchdown on a fiveyard run and the conversion was made on a Smith to Cromer pass. The junior varsity record is now 8-1. They have done a fine job this year.

Warriorette volleyball team active; in tourney Tuesday

By JOAN BVLETTY The Wawasee girls volleyball team has been very active lately. They have been playing many good games involving both skill and teamwork. On Tuesday, Oct. 21, the Warriorettes traveled to Goshen. In junior varsity, the girls were downed by Goshen 15-8 and 15-4. The varsity team lost 4-15 and 1215. The team hosted Elkhart Central on Wednesday. Oct. 22. The junior varsity was victorious 15-8 and 15-6. Central upset the varsity, however, by winning two games 15-13 and 15-13 and Wawasee took the other 15-10. The Warriorettes hosted North Wood on Thursday, Oct. 23. at Wawasee. Allen, r 4 Syracuse, has been assigned a student teaching position at North Central high school and Franklin Township junior high school in mathematics and chemistry. Miss Allen is a mathematics major at Butler university.
