Dan Stephan attends seminar Dan Stephan, manager of the Lake Wawasee office of Beaty Associates-Realtors, recently attended a two day farm and land seminar at the Marriott Hotel in Fort Wayne. The educational subjects included. were "Indiana Crops and Soils” and "Exchanging Farms and Rural Property. ’ The event was sponsored by the Indiana Chapter of The Farm and Land Institute and Mr. Stephan received accreditation points toward the professional designation of "Accredited Farm and Land Member.” Farm income tax school set for area tax practitioners Tax practitioners and consultants from Kosciusko county will be brought up to date on latest federal and state income tax rules and regulations during a two-day school December 1 and 2 at South Bend. The Farm Income Tax School is one of a series being presented throughout the state by the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service. The school is restricted to persons who prepare income tax returns for others While generally oriented to preparing farm tax returns, the schools will also offer information relating to all types of income tax returns. The Indianapolis District, Internal Revenue Service, and the Indiana Department of Revenue are cooperating in presenting the schools. Specially trained instructors for the school will be from those agencies. Special attention will be given to problem income tax topics such as self-employed retirement plans, commodity futures (hedging, speculations), schedule D, schedule 4797, taxation of partnerships and joint ventures, net operating losses, tax consequencies of sick and disability pay, what’s new. Major emphasis will also be given to changes and new provisions of the Indiana state income tax law and county option taxes. Advance registration is ■required, and no one will be able to attend unless they have preenrolled. Enrollment will be limited at the schools to the number that can be accommodated comfortably. Enrollees will be assigned to the location of their choice on a firstcome first-served basis; and then to the location of their second choice. More detailed information and applications for enrollment are available from the Kosciusko County Extension office. Return from vacation trip Mr. and Mrs. Emest Richards of Syracuse have returned from a two-week trip to Tacoma and Seattle, Wash. They visited with Dr. and Mrs. George Arbaugh and son and family, the son having suffered a severe heart attack recently. Also, visits were made to the Space Needle. Mount Rainer, several places on the Sound, Battleship Missouri, and the underground city of old Seattle and saw the honoring of the visit of King Majesty Olav V. King of Norway.
