OBITUARIES
Eli Shock Funeral sendees were held Monday for Eli Shock, 98. of North Webster. A retired farmer and resident of Kosciusko county all of his life, death came Friday evening in Whitley County hospital at Columbia City and was due to complications following an illness of several years Mr. Shock was born in Turkey Creek township near Syracuse on August 19, 1877, a son of Henry and Elizabeth (Auer) Shock His marriage to, Osee Kiser took place July 21, 1896 and she preceded him in death in 1968 He was a member of the North Webster Church of God. Survivors include three sons, Elvin of Plymouth. Pearl, North Webster, and Dale of Cliff., NewMexico. four daughters. Mrs Leßoy (Clara) Dye of Leesburg. Mrs Hiriam (Irene) Ferverda. Mrs Lester (Pauline) White, and Mrs Betty Ganger, all of North Webster; one brother. Ezra of Syracuse, one sister. Mrs Zora Hodson of Columbia City; 26 grandchildren; 68 greatgrandchildren; and 31 great-great-grandchildren Two sons preceded him in death Interment was in McClintic cemetery near North Webster Mrs. Elijah D. LeCount Services were held Monday for Mrs Ruth Fem LeCount. 81. Goshen and formerly of Syracuse She also was the mother of Mrs Wilbur (Minnie) DeVault of Syracuse and Edward LeCount of Dewart Lake Death came on Thursday in Goshen hospital where she had been a patient for one day She had been m failing health for the past 10 years Mrs LeCount was bom in Goshen on November 1. 1893 and united m marriage to Elijah

LeCount on July 1, 1919 in Wisconsin The couple moved to Goshen in 1943 from Syracuse Surviving, in addition to the Syracuse daughter and son. are the husband; two other daughters. Mrs. Robert (Ruby) Rose of Nappanee and Mrs Richard (Alice) Hover. Goshen; five other sons. Leonard. Eagle Lake. Mich.. Curtiss, Hubert and Clifford, all of Elkhart and David of Goshen. 29 grandchildren, and 53 great-grandchildren A son. Robert, died in World War 11. Services were held at Saint John's Catholic church where the deceased was a member Interment was in West Goshen cemetery ' Ethel B. Calbeck Services were held Monday in Nappanee for Ethel B. Calbeck, 73. formerly Nappanee She died Friday, Oct. 3, at the Om nursing home, Milford, where she had been a patient for four months Bom in Milford on October 11. 1901 to Charles and Grace (Hess) Bird, she married Kenneth Calbeck in Nappanee on June 18. 1927 Her husband preceded her in death April 30. 1967. Mr and Mrs Calbeck owned and operated Kacy Auto Sales. Nappanee Surviving are one son. Kenneth Calbeck. Jr . Temple. Ariz three daughters. Mrs RubyWallace. Temple Ariz.; Mrs Jack (Kenlyn) Arnott and Mrs Robert (Suzannatv Lloyd, both of Nappanee. six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother. Henry A. Bird; and one sister. Mrs. John (Dorothy) Augsburger. both of Milford. Chloe Gawthrop Mrs Chloe M Gawthrop. 89. passed away Tuesday at the Miller Merry Manor, Warsaw She had been a patient there since August 1974. Mrs
Gawthrop had been ill for several years. Bom neir Milford on January 18.1886 to Henry and Mary (Utz) Geyer, she married Carl Gawthrop July 27, 1911. Her husband preceded her in death on December 17, 1964. The Gawthrops moved from the Milford community to Etna Green in 1961. Mrs. Gawthrop was a member of the First Brethren church of Milford. Survivors include one son, Harold of r 1 Etna Green; three grandchildren, James E. Gawthrop. Goshen. Dr. J. C. Gawthrop, Rensselaer and Mrs. Ellis (Mary) Hissong. Cerro Gordo. Ill.; and six greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Gawthrop, had one brother who preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Milford funeral home with Rev. Richard Boyd officiating Interment will be in the Milford cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p m and 7 to 9 pm. Thursday Joseph Witchey Word has been received of the death of Joseph Witchey. 84. Mansfield. Ohio. A former Milford resident, he was the nephew of the late Jehu Beer He was bom October 18. 1890 Mr Witchey became ill and died while on vacation with his wife Surviving with the wife are a twin sister, Mrs Josephine Love of Colorado and two other sisters. Miss Emma Witchey of Colorado and Mrs Mary Wuthrich of Mansfield. A son and several brothers preceded him in death. Births MATHEWS. Steven Michael A son. Steven Michael, was bom to Mr and Mrs. Michael Mathews of 253 E. Indiana St., Nappanee, on Saturday, Sept 13, in the Goshen hospital. The young man was born at 12:30 a.m. and weighed seven pounds, 13 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs. Lee Bricker, Nappanee and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mathews, Milford. Greatgrandparents are Mrs. Lydian Yoder, Nappanee; Mrs. Lewis Fox, Bloomingdale, Mich.; and William Riedel. Goshen. RODGERS, Joo Ryan Mr and Mrs Steve Rodgers. Leesburg, are the parents of a six pound, 12 ounce son, Jon Ryan. He was born Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Whitley County hospital, Columbia City. Young Jon was welcomed

Investigate burglary at Cabana club Kosciusko county officers continue investigation into a break-in and theft at the Cabana club, r 2 Syracuse. The report was filed by Jim Johnson stating the premises were entered sometime after 8 p.m. on Saturday and discovered on Sunday morning. Entry was gained through an unlocked screened porch, lifting a window and entering. Among items taken were kitchen cabinet drawers containing sterling silver service for 200 persons, a copper finish ceiling light, and eight cans of frozen grape juice. Syracuse answers false fire alarm Syracuse firemen responded to a call in the 200 block of North Huntington street around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday night, however, the call placed by a neighbor in the area was false alarm as firemen found a charcoal burner ready for cooking meat for the evening meal. Farm Bureau to host 4-H awards The Elkhart Township Farm Bureau will host the 4-H achievement program for five Goshen area clubs; reports extension youth agent Michael McKinney. All 4-H members, leaders and parents will hold their program at the fairgrounds sheep-swine arena Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. The county farm bureau association sponsors the com- e pletion pins for the 2.150 4-H members county-wide. Dear Editor: I’m sorry to learn that the first aid course was cancelled due to the lack of enough people willing to participate. As a mother of two sons who have a medical problem, I know the importance of this course. My heart goes out to the people in Milford because they do not have the foresight to see that this knowledge may save the life of one of their children or other loved ones.
