Many sighed with relief when the postal rates were announced several weeks ago, actually lowering charges in several areas — then comes an announcement this week of a postal rate hike effective December 28 which is expected to add 12.4 billion a year in extra revenues for the VS Postal service. The first ounce of first class mail will rise to 13 cents and each additional ounce will rise from 9 to 11 cents. Cost of sending a postal card will jump from 7 to 9 cents While the price of sending a letter air mail goes up. advantages disappear as all first class mail will go via air mail as of October 11. Air mail costa will go from 13 to 17 cents an ounce. Parcel post rates will be boosted an average 10 per cent. Angola Ambulance runs during week end Several ambulance runs were made during the week end including transporting of Mrs. Floyd Gingerich in Syracuse, to Goshen hospital early Sunday morning after becoming ill at her home. Dawn McMillian. 37, r 2 Syracuse, was taken to Goshen hospital following a call at 4:14 Monday afternoon for a possible drug overdose reaction

14 YEARS AGO, OCT. 12.1951 Drilling for oil began on the Everett Butrick farm just southeast of Milford last Thursday substaining the belief that there is oil in this vicinity. The Milford fire department is celebrating Fire Prevention Week from October 8 through 14 by paying off all indebtness on the three year old fire station. The Milford town board met at town hall Monday night and named Delbert Roderick to the board to fill the unexpired term

George H. Talbert is engaged to conduct special meetings at Milford Church of the Nazarene. Famed showboat is coming to Milford’s Mark theater this week. The name of the famous boat is the Mark Twain. Two Milford ladies visited the New Paris telephone office last Friday. 39 YEARS AGO, OCT. 11,1945 Master Sgt. Vernon J. Hollar, son of Mrs. John Green, returned to Milford Saturday night with an honorable discharge and four Hershey bars.
Methodist district evangelistic rallies —a good percentage of the Methodist constituency of Milford is planning to attend the rally on Sunday. The blacksmith shop in Milford, owned and operated by Earl Miller, received a coat of gray paint last week. Pheasant season opens November 10. through November 17. The announcement was made by hunting division of fish and games. 40 YEARS AGO. OCT. 10. 1935 The Milford conservation club placed 55,000 bluegills in Waubee Lake, last week The fish were taken from the rearing ponds of Sam Dausman at Tippecanoe Lake under an agreement between the local club and the owners of the ponds The work of transferring the fish was under
the direction of Noah Eaton, game warden. Miss June Coy, a student at Manchester college, is teaching second year English and arithmetic for her critic teacher, Miss Dressher. this week. Mr. A Icyda, a native of Japan, addressed the Milford high school assembly Tuesday which was well received. His mission is to promote a friendly feeling between the two nations. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gawthrop of Sioux City. lowa, came Saturday to visit his parents. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Gawthrop and to help them celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They returned to their home, Monday. WPA workers have placed approaches to the drives at the Geo Estep and Mrs. Mary Hurd homes and relaid most of the
walk along the northside of the Victor Fuller residence lot, all the properties being on Main street. Minor injuries in two-vehicle mishap A rural Syracuse woman, Joanna Bryon, 28, sustained a laceration to the right cheek in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of county road 1000 north and the Syracuse-Webster road around 2:58 Monday afternoon. She was treated at Goshen hospital and released. County officers investigated setting damages at $1,200 to the Bryon auto, with no damage to the other vehicle driven by Everett Joyce, 71, r 6 Warsaw and $35 to a fence post near the Zion Chapel church.
