Wawasee jaws Bremen
By JOAN BL'LETI f Hal Traviolia's Wawasee Warriors ravenously jawed the Bremen Lions 31-13 at Friday night’s homecoming game before an enormous crowd of exuberant fans. After last week’s loss the team and fans were all fired up to net a full scale win Both teams were charted to a good match; however, the Warriors wiped the evenness as anxious offense consumed yardage, while the defense sank its teeth into Bremen’s offensive line. Wawasee took over immediately after the clock started by scoring on five plays. Ralph Reiff scored on a 10 yard pass from quarterback Keith Cripe. The Lions came back with « score by Mike Swain to even the score 6-6 The Warriors again in possession fumbled but recovered byway of Nelson Preston Three plays later Bremen recovered a Wawasee fumble and came back despite the hard hitting Warrior defense to score seven more points and end their scoring for the evening In the second stanza Cripe hurled several spirals to Joel Popenfoose and Ralph Reiff as the big green machine ate up yardage Then as the Warriors were on the Bremen 24 with fourth and nine took a chance and proved themselves as Cripe hit Wes Bell for a splendid 14 yard pass and a vital first down Popenfoose ran to stack up four yards and followed by dashing the remaining six yards to paydirt Wawasee snatched the pigskin from Bremen on their first play when Harlan Hersey recovered a

Lion fumble far into Bremen territory. After a CripePopenfoose connection. Rick Bauman lit the scoreboard for Wawasee on a seven yard run to put the tribe out in front 18-13 with 6:46 left in the first half. The Lions failed to make a first down, held back by Gary Vanator and John Minear on the defense The Warriors also failed and shortly after punting to Bremen, intercepted a pass to put the tribe in control once more Time was running out. with only 46 seconds left until the half, when Wawasee found themselves on Bremen’s 16 yard line with fourth and eight, Ralph Reiff attempted a field goal but it hooked to the left of the uprights Following the halftime festivities Bremen started things off, but couldn’t seem to get rolling and handed the ball over to Wawasee Cripe continued his passing show by sending arrows to Bauman. Reiff and Bell, but were set back by a penalty and Brian Smith booted the punt to the Lions who fumbled two plays later and Mike Stork recovered for the Warriors. Cripe ran on the first play and then hit both Reiff and Bauman for substantial yardage. Bauman then scored on a six yard dash and Reiffs toe added the extra point The fourth quarter saw little action as both defenses held fast and the ball moved back and forth between teams until the end when Nelson Preston received two passes via Cripe and tallied six points on a six yard run with only nine seconds remaining on the dock for a fantastic play to finish off an exciting night. Rick Bauman was the leading rusher with 61 total yards, followed by Joel Popenfoose and Nelson Preston, a versatile member of the defense who also stacked up several tackles along with Larry Allen and Randy Rinker. Ralph Reiff was the leading receiver, rolling up 93 yards in six catches. Steve Kroh and W es Bell were also in on the receiving action. Halftime Activities Halftime Friday night was a very eventful and enjoyable time
