Elko Homemakers hold election of officers
Members of the Elko Homemaker's camp held election of officers at Camp Mack, near Milford, September 8-9. following officers were elected for the coming year: President — Rosco Meyers of Goshen Vice president — Max Chiddister of Goshen Secretary — Mrs. Thomas Bagar of Larwill The group consists of Elkhart and Kosciusko counties with 1,192 members in Kosciusko county with 66 dubs John Gunter from Anderson presented entertainment on Monday evening, with songs and experiences from his childhood. The group also saw slides on "Wild Flowers of Northern Indiana ' and “Origin of the Flag.” Initiation was held for 10 new members. Senior citizens enjoy floral demonstration The Milford Senior Citizens met Sunday in the fire station for a carry-in dinner The tables were decorated with fall flower arrangements.
Members from New Paris, Nappanee, Syracuse, Leesburg and Milford were present. Chris Koher of Syracuse spoke on behalf of the Lakeland Kiwanis club. Lowell Beer presented a program on flower arrangements, garden tiowers and dry flowers. Arrangements were given as door prizes to Mrs. Darlene Miller and Mrs. Ruth Haney. The business meeting followed. The nominating committee was appointed for officers for the coming year. Georgia Buster, Kosciusko county queen, gave a report on the sta’e convention The next meeting will be held on October 12. COB women's camp now in progress The annual women’s camp for the northern Indiana district Church of the Brethren women is in progress thru Thursday at Camp Mack near Milford. The theme this year is "Reach Out and Touch.” The main speaker for the affair is Mrs. William (Susie), Weybright of Middlebury* who speaks morning and afternoon each day. Ebersole who talk is titled “Kentucky Woman.” The project this year is funds to help support Miss Ruth Utz. /ormer missionary to Africa from northern Indiana, who is ill in the church’s retirement home in Sebring. Fla. Each person attending camp is asked to bring a five inch square of polyester material for a quilt which is being pieced at camp for Miss Utz from northern Indiana cfistrict women. It is requested persons having scrap yarn bring four ply, sports and baby yarn for use of the blind persons in Elkhart county who are learning to knit Women were asked to bring items they do not want and put a price on them for an “exchange sale”. A book exchange is also being held. Crafts are available for free time during the camp. Milford residents visit Turkey Run Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mathews. Mr and Mrs Dale Stump and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Replogle, all Milford residents, were week end visitors at Turkey Run state park near Rockville The group of campers enjoyed a 15 mile canoe trip on Sugar Creek on Saturday.
Homemakers month
By ANN HANCOOK Extension Agent October has been proclaimed International Homemaker’s month by Governor Otis Bowen. In observance of this proclamation, the Indiana Extension Homemakers are having an International Day, October 1 in Lebanon. The keynote speaker for the day will be Mrs. Mary Jane Aylesworth, Indiana's Exchange Homemaker to India in 1970. Mrs. Aylesworth will speak on the topic, “It’s A Small World." An international style show will be narrated by Mrs. Aylesworth in the afternoon. The Indiana Extension Homemakers are looking forward to a visit from a homemaker from Kenya next spring. In preparation for this visit Mrs. Elizabeth Waco will discuss “Home and Family Life in Kenya.” An international lunch will be served with foods from all over the world. Also during the lunch hour exhibits from Japan, Norway. Australia. Africa and India will be on display. Also international entertainment will be provided by the Cosmopolitan dub. Tickets for this international
program can be purchased at the Extension Office. Registration must be made by September 18. Mrs. Charles Smoker, r 7 Warsaw, International Chairman, will charter a bus if there is enough interest. Call her if you need transportation. Recipe Correction The Zucchini tread recipe that was printed two weeks ago did not indicate the amount of flour needed. Use 3 to cups flour. We have had several calls for the following recipe: Frozen Slaw 1 medium cabbage, shredded 1 carrot, grated 1 green pepper, chopped 1 tsp. salt. Mix salt with cabbage, let stand 1 hour. Squeeze out excess moisture. Add carrot and pepper. While cabbage is standing make the following dressing: 1 cup vinegar cup .water 1 tsp. whole mustard seed 1 tsp. celery seed 2 cups sugar Combine ingredients, boil 1 minute. Cool to lukewarm, pour over slaw mixture, put into containers, cover and freeze. This thaws in just a few minutes for serving and leftover slaw can easily be refrozen Beverly Davis engaged to Wayne Eppiey Mr. and Mrs. Ralph W. Davis of r 1 Michigantown announce the engagement of their daughter, Beverly Jean, to Wayne Allen Eppiey. son of Rev. and Mrs. Paul H. Eppiey of Marion. An early 1976 wedding is being planned. Miss Davis graduated from Clinton Central high school at Michigantown and attended Indiana Central college. She is employed with The Farmers Bank at Frankfort. Her fiance graduated from Huntington North high school and International Junior college at Fort Wayne. He is presently employed at Oakwood Park, Syracuse. Also, no information was available from the town engineer regarding the infiltration thought to be in the Boston street or Medusa court area. Board members approved a request by the chief of police on mowing the sides of the Syracuse-Webster road from Railroad avenue to the high school due to youths walking these areas daily since school has started. Old Turbine Carl Myrick reported the old turbine located in the building at the corner of Dolan drive and Main streets, has been removed and is ready to be taken to Oswego for the historical society. He added an old furnace remains in the building, thought to be oil, and that the town has no use for it. The town plans to use the building for winter storage of tools and equipment, however, fill will be needed where equipment was removed, and cement poured to make the floor on one level for equipment, such as lawn mowers. Also a number of window lights need replacing, having been broken out over the years the building was not in use. Grisamer reported no grading had been done to date by the owner at Village Green where a catch basin and culvert has been requested due to a severe water problem. The street department is to install the basin and culvert as soon as the owner grades his ground to drain at one of the front corners, preferably the northwest corner of his property line. Cost is estimated at S2OO. It was noted Mr. Joyce, an insurance representative, is expected to be in attendance at the next meeting of the board. Clerk-treasurer Mrs. Betty Dust reported attending the meeting with the county tax adjustment board on September 8 at which time the town budget for 1976 was approved as presented. The next meeting on the budget will be with the state representatives on Friday, Oct. 3, at 10:30 a m. in the courthouse at Warsaw. Board members in attendance Tuesday night, in addition to Grisamer and Myrick, were Christine Clodfelter and Clifford Nicodemus. Also attending were James Tranter and Donald Nine, recent selections for board seats by town Republicans at a caucus in August. Town attorney Robert Reed was absent, as was board member John Cripe, due to a previous commitment.

UM Women meet at C. D. Barnes home
Mrs. Joe Gerencser was program leader for the United Methodist Women when they met September 11 in the home of Mrs. C. D. Barnes. Mrs. Keith Lindzy, president, opened the meeting with the reading of the 117 Psalm. During the business meeting announcements were made concerning the UMW district annual meeting at Oakwood Park on September 29, district officers training in Nappanee on October 29 and the north Indiana conference meeting at Peru high school on November 1. The president paid special tribute to a unit member, Mrs. William Motts, tor her unselfish giving of time and energy to help other people when they are in need. Bazaar workshops were announced. Mrs. Gerencser will be chairman of the Christmas decorations workshop that will meet every Tuesday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Glenn Treesh.
Officers installed at Bethel women’s meeting
The September meeting of the Womeh’s Fellowship at the Bethel Church of the Brethren in Mijford was an installation of officers for the current church year. Installing for the group was Mrs. J. Earl Hostetter of New Paris. Mrs. Hostetter’s subject was “We Are God’s Co-Workers.” The presentation was mixed with group singing. Mrs. Dorothy Williams at the piano. For scripture the speaker used I Cor. and Col. 3:12-17. She also used the poems “I Shall Not Pass This Way Again” and “Jesus Christ and We” as part of her presentation. Christian church ladies entertain area ladies
The ladies of the Milford Christian church entertained last evening (Tuesday) for the area ladies meeting with women from Ligonier. Etna Green, Warsaw and Plymouth in attendance. Mrs. Elaine Hall, president of the Milford church’s ladies aid served as mistress of ceremonies for the evening. She introduced Kerrie Augsburger and Sherry Myers, who sang several numbers. Devotions were given by Mrs. W. W. Free and two numbers were presented by Richard Fehnel and Mrs. Eldon Wilson. The speaker for the evening was Miss Linda Doub of the Pleasant View Church of Christ in Angola. Miss Doub is a physical education teacher in the Angola schools. Her topic for the evening was “Anything Goes" Poynter real estate offered for sale Notice is given this week that Robert J. Hurd, administrator of the estate of Mary Esther Poynter, deceased, will offer for sale real estate to close the estate. The private sale will be in the offices of First National Bank of Warsaw, Milford branch, in the town of Milford on the third day ot October at the hour of 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and from day to day until sold, all of the right, title and interest of said decedent, in the town of Milford Junction.

Mrs. Bob Ruch is already hostess for the toy workshop in her home each Monday morning. The bazaar will be held on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 6 and 7, at the fire station. Mrs. Gerencser briefly reviewed a book written about the 1890 period and in keeping with the Bicentennial theme about “Manners. Culture and Dress.” It was quite humorous and thoroughly enjoyed by all those present. The president closed the meeting with a poem entitled, “Kindness” and repeated a prayer by Saint Francis of Assisi. The hostess, Mrs. Barnes and the assisting hostess, Mrs. Alyce Fuller served refreshments to 25 members and two guests, Mrs. Melvin Jordan and Clay Brooks. The October 9 meeting will be in the home of Mrs. Treesh. Election of officers . and the pledge service will take place at this time.

North Webster Theta Sigmas hold meeting The Theta Sigma chapter of Psi lota Xi sorority met last week in the home of chapter president Janet Allen. The national convention report was given by Linda Hoy who along with Mrs. Allen were delegates to the national convention held at Muncie in June. The 1976 convention will be in Seattle, Wash. An invitation from the Pi chapter of Fort Wayne was read inviting members and the public to the annual antique show there in September. Another antique show will be held by the Portland Psi lotes in October. Sorority members are planning several projects in the near future including a jewelry party and persons wishing to attend may do so by calling Mrs. John Richardson or Mrs. Jack Rhoades. The chapter also will be holding a flea market and rummage sale in North Webster in October.
