All star cast melt in 'The Devil's Rain' Two years ago. a major horror film, "The Exorcist," burst onto the scene, enticing audiences with a unique view of demonic possession. Indeed, it seemed that people all over the world were intrigued with the notion of a devil in the flesh. Now. in 1975. Sandy Howard Productions presents a unique new shocker for Bryanston Pictures release. Entitled. "The Devil’s Rain,” and opening Friday at the Goshen Theatre, it’s a story that relates the rituals and practices of devil worship, possession and satanism boasting a climax guaranteed to make audiences walk away from the theatre with the thought — “I’ve never seen anything like this before ” The process everyone will be talking about is known simply as "melting" and it’s an extraordinary combination of makeup and special effects to achieve a look of human beings disintegrating as if their entire bodies were made of hot wax. All the performers in the multistarred cast of "The Devil’s Rain." are actually involved in the execution of this creative happening Ernest Borgnine. as the devil himself, assisted by Ida Lupino. William Shatner. Eddie Albert. Tom Skerritt, Keenan Wynn and Joan Prather spent many hours undergoing the technicalities needed to achieve maximum effect in relating the true horror of the film’s premise "Psycho” had its horrifying shower scene The French thriller "Diabolique” showed us a special kind of terror in a bathtub And "The Tingler" almost scared us out of our seats with genuine electric shocks. Now along comes "The Devil’s Rain." and it’s safe to say that the "melting” process will be added to the list of classic examples of filmatic horror honed to perfection

Dear Editor: Regarding the letter in last week’s Mail-Journal concerning "movie filth," since when has the Drug Education committee taken up the judging of films? With drugs being peddled on the streets, it seems the committee would have a full time job controlling that traffic. The rating board has rules on ages allowed to attend R or Xrated film On R-rated film, age is 17 or cider, unless accompanied by an older person or given permission by parent. It has surprised me the number of parents bringing young children or giving permission to see Rrated films That is up to the parent and management can do nothing about it. On X-rated film, age is 18 and if there is any doubt, the management requests showing an ID card, showing their age or birth date We have had cases of false ID cards. Here we check the cards and our job ends there. If a parent knows his or her teenagers have a false ID card, it

Week end accidents cause damage

Some $2,000 damage was estimated to a 1975 Ford belonging to Warren Hunnicutt, 22. r 2 Syracuse, around 3:15a.m. in the 200 block of Huntington on Saturday. is up to them to look into it. At the Pickwick Theatre we have always presented family type entertainment, and in my almost 12 years with the theatre, we have shown four X-rated movies. We do not force anyone to attend the theatre What some think is entertainment others may think of as a “dirty moviq." We have shown G and PG-rated films for weeks at a time, the management is proud of the clean, quiet theatre, we nowhave. We co-operate with local police on hours during the school year I am sure if more parents knew where their teenagers were at night, they would have no reason to condemn the theatre. I think the owner and management deserves a fewwords of praise for the type of entertainment and the way in which the theatre is operated. Georgia C. If this is your year to move, you're probably not looking forward to it. No matter how you look at it, moving is a hassle. But if you take a systematic approach, says the Better Business Bureau, you can minimize aggravation. The first thing you must do is to choose a moving company. This has been easier for consumers since March, when the Interstate Commerce Commission started to require moving companies to give each prospective customer a copy of its performance record for the previous year. This is done’ when the salesperson comes to your home to estimate how much it will cost to move your belongings. In addition to inspecting a company's performance record, ask friends for recommendations about van lines. Additionally, you may want to call a nearby Better Business Bureau to see what the mover's customer experience record may be. Regulated Estimates Because ’ the ICC establishes rates on interstate moves, actual charges from different companies will not be too dissimilar. Be suspicious if the sales person takes only a cursory look at your houseful of furniture and gives you a low estimate; you may be in for a big surprise in the way of a big bill. Cost is based on weight and distance. Amount of liability is up to you. Mover will make inventcry of furniture after it is loaded.
