Warriors ready to kick-off By JOAN BVLETTY The Wawasee Warriors are all set to kick off the 75-76 football season Saturday night at the Jamboree. Competing against W’awasee will be North Wood. Lakeland and Plymouth. North Wood is hosting the Jamboree again this year at Nappanee. The gates open at 6:45 with the game starting at 7:30 There will be no pre-game sale of tickets. All tickets are to be sold at the gate. Hal Traviolia is the head coach with Ted Mahnensmith, Dave Matz, and Ray Reid as the assistants. The coaches for the freshman team are George Vitaniemi and Tony Clouse. The freshman team has 28 members this year. The managers are Don Minear, Dan Blosser and J. D. Whiteman. Coach Traviolia says they are looking forward to the Jamboree as a time to experiment, a time to see how different people look and a time to decide on a final team. It is a good time to get some practical playing in before the season starts. Experiment is the key word for the Jamboree. The coach thinks the line will be the strongest part of the team with the most returning letterman on it. He says the defense is also very strong, and they have a whole new offense. Wawasee did lose a lot of strong seniors but this is a problem every year and the coach expects the younger players coming up to fill in those spots very efficiently There is a heavy emphasis on Ralph Reiff who is expected to be outstanding. There are two suitable players vying for the quarterback position — Larry Allen, a senior and returning letterman and Keith Cripe, a strong junior. There are a total of 57 boys on the varsity team for the 75-76 year — 17 seniors, 15 juniors and 25 sophomores, nine are returning lettermen, they are Larry Allen. W'es Bell, Jeff Miller, John Minear. Nelson Preston, Ralph Reiff, Randy Rinker, Mike Stork, and Mark Wilkey. Phil Korenstra, the tenth letterman, was injured in a motorcycle accident and will probably be out for the season. Six of the returning lettermen are regulars, Wes Bell (O), John Minear <O), Nelson Preston (D), Ralph Reiff (D.+O), Randy Rinker (O). and Mike Stork (D). It looks like we have a good season ahead, so let’s get out there and show our team we are behind them “City people, industrial leaders, and businessmen are awakening to the essentiality of adequate water supplies.
