Each day offers its own challenges, ranging from the agony of riding into a strong headwind to the thrill of a 10 mile coast down from a mountain pass. In the evening, the weary, but happy, riders pull into a town to spend the night in a church or school, having grown themselves as well as leaving a jiew reference point for Christ in the minds of others. This year there are three trips for The Spokesmen. They will involve some 100 youth. The first was an 800-mile trip for junior high boys from Williamsburg, LAKELAND LOCAL Mr and Mrs John L. Miller. Indiana. Idea For You This group should inspire many of the residents of the Lakeland area to ride bicycles. They also give ideas for an economical summer vacation at home. Why not plan a family bike-hike around one of the lakes. You might not be able to camp out but if you start early in the morning the family could be home and tucked in its own beds by an early hour, depending on which lake you decide to ride around and how many stops are made along the way. There are picnic areas found in several places. One is located in the Milford town park on the 4x>res of Waubee Lake, another at the Syracuse owned park at Syracuse Lake, one is on state owned land at the old Wawasee fish hatchery and another overlooks the Barbee chain south of North Webster. Think about it! Talk about it! Then why not try it! Perfect Place The Lakeland area is the perfect place to enjoy an economy vacation locally. Persons who live in this area can be thankful they have so many varieties of recreation to participate in within a few miles of their homes. You can enjoy a picnic at any one of a number of locations mentioned above. Swimming can be enjoyed at both the Milford and Syracuse parks and playground equipment provides entertainment for youngsters. Sandy beach areas provide room for sunbathing while shaded areas offer cooler breezes. If mother is tired of cooking and needs a vacation from the kitchen why not dine out. There are many excellent restaurants in the area. Want a big of history .. . visit Amish Acres in Nappanee or Clarksville in North Webster. The International Palace of Sports is also located in North Webster. How about fishing or boating.
There are marinas at most lakes and quite often they not only sell but rent boating equipment. Fishing can also be enjoyed along the shoreline in many cases and from river and channel banks. W'hat about installing a swimming pool in your own back
