McCarty, Bryant attend Kiwanis club convention

It was announced during the June 23 meeting of Lakeland Kiwanis club that Pat McCarty, president, and Sherm Bryant, president-elect, of the Lakeland club are attending the convention at Atlanta. Ga. Miss Darlene ScherCr. a staff member at a Fort Uayne greenhouse, was guest speaker She showed slides and discussed her experiences while assisting with the decorations at the White House. J. R Koher reported that the date for the bus trip to Chicago to see a baseball game will be August 7. Camp set for youth Registration blanks are still available at the office of North Webster Church of God for some sessions of summer camp. The youth camps will be held at Yellow Creek Lake. Camp dates are: July 7-11. 13 year olds; July 14-18. 12 year olds; July 21-25, 11 year olds. July 28-31,10 year olds and July 31 through August 2, nine year olds The post high youth will attend camp August 30 through September 1. Church of God sponsors a Dixie Boat Sing Out’

North Webster Church of God is sponsoring a “Dixie Boat Sing Out” at 9:45 p.m.. July sth. The music department of the church is planning an hour of Gospel Music on the Dixie Boat. There will be duets, trios. Backwater Friends meet in home of Mrs. H. Bemish Mrs. Howard Bemish was hostess for the recent June meeting of Backwater Friends home extension club. Mrs. Robert Likens assisted the hostess and gave the meditation The minutes of the last meeting were read by Wanda Mickley. Mrs. Glenn Vanator gave the treasurer s report. Reports were presented by Mrs Ralph Bennett, health and safety, self cleaning ovens; Mrs. Robert Rhoades, garden remarks, planting potatoes under straw and Mrs. Doug Bowser, citizenship. The lesson entitled “Nutritional Snacks." was given by Mrs Bemish and Mrs. Likens. Roll call response was “In what food I overindulge.” New officers were installed during a candlelight ceremony. Mrs Bowser was the installing officer The new officers are: Rosie Mort — president Dixie Likens — vice president Mrs. Mickley — secretary Wanda Moser — treasurer. It was announced that there will be no meeting during July and August. The September meeting will be in the home of Mildred Gray. Youngsters enjoy . trip to park Children from North Webster Church of God enjoyed a trip to Frankee Park. Fort Wayne, on July 2. Children in grades one through five participated in the activities. She discussed "Immunizations.” The citizenship report “There ought to be a law” was presented by Mrs. Jerry Helvey. The lesson “Nutritional Snacks” was given by Mrs. Richcreek. Roll call response was: “What did you do on your very first date with your very first boy friend'’” Mrs. N. R. Niles gave a report on the fair board stockholders meeting “Green Thumbs", to advertise the Farmer’s Market, were distributed. New leader sesson project sheets were distributed and discussed The planning committee announced that a club picnic will be held in August at Sullivan Park. Homemakers camp was also discussed The July meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Charles Long. Orlie Black will be guest speaker He will discuss and demonstrate arts and crafts projects. The meeting closed with group singing of the club prayer song. Dungans entertain at church social Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dungan, Lake Tippecanoe, were hosts for the get acquainted ice cream social sponsored by Parish Number 5 of First Presbyterian church. Warsaw. The event was held June 22 from 3 till 5 p.m. Homemade ice cream and assorted cakes were served. There are approximately 45 families living in the Parish 5 area.

Beta Psi sorority holds election Beta Psi chapter of Lambda Chi Omega sorority met recently at Camelot Hall. North Webster. Ejection of officers was held. The new officers will be installed eh the July meeting. Discussion was held concerning the fall convention to be held at Nashville. A committee was elected to investigate charity projects in connection with the new Kosciusko county hospital. Allen, r 4 Syracuse, is among 12 Butler University coeds who were honored by the university chapter of women in communications for scholastic achievement and campus leadership during the past year. Two sisters of Mrs. R. Marion in accident Two sisters of Mrs. Robert Marion. 400 Dolan drive, Syracuse, were hospitalized as the result of injuries sustained in a car-truck accident at the junction of roads 30 and 13 near Pierceton at 1:27 p.m. Friday. The Marions are managers of the Ben Franklin store in Syracuse. The two girls are Judy Bellah. 22. and Vicki Bellah. 20. both of Kokomo, driving a 1971 Dodge south on road 13. when a pick-up truck driven by Sonny Ray. 39. of Pierceton, headed north on road 13. suddenly turned left in front of the Bellah car.

The two girls were taken to the Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw where surgery was required on the arm of Judy Bellah to close a laceration. They were to be released at midweek. Both vehicles were a total wreck. Ray was ticketed for an improper turn and for driving under the influence. Former resident hospitalized after accident Chauncey Smith, six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip (“Homer”) Smith of Warsaw, formerly of Milford. is recovering following a bicycle accident last Tuesday. The accident happened at CR 400 N and CR 150 W around 5:30

p.m. Mark A. Snider, 21, r 4 Warsaw, was driving west on 400 N and told county officer Marlin Rose he observed several bike riders coming from the south. He watched one rider who did not stop at the intersection and continued to watch him as the Smith boy rode into the side of the van. Chauncey was taken to the Parkview hospital following the accident where he was treated for a fractured jaw and lacerations. LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Klenke and son Gary, formerly of Fascination Place, Lake Wawasee, have moved to Englewood, Fla. They are the new owners of Lemon Bay golf course at Englewood.
