Dave Wollman in tri-state meet

By SANDY GERENCSER Dave Wollman. a recent graduate of Wawasee, had the honor of competing in the triMate meet with Michigan and Ohio last Saturday at Fort Wayne Northrop Dave placed fifth after hurhng the discus 157 feet, eight inches, Dave’s coach. Jerry Minton, was pleased with his finish as he simply stated. "It’s not bad". Ohio took the two top places in the discus The winner in the event came within eight feet of a national record as he sent the platter sailing 191 feet Indiana’s state champ. Wawasee girls win two games After being rained out twice, the Wawasee girls came back and won two league games this past week. On Saturday they beat the Carol Brimer team by a score of 12-6. Nancv Shock had three hits. Martha Salazar and Brenda Replogle had two hits each Phyllis Horvath was the winning pitcher and also drove in two runs with a triple. Miller had three hits for the Carol Brimer team, Styer was the loosing pitcher. On Monday night the girls romped over the Becker and Chnspyn’s team by the score of 25-4 The game was called at the end of the sixth inning due to the 15 run rule A total of 15 girls played in this game for the Warriorettes Nancy Shock again led the hits with four Nancy Shock. Betsy Williams, Barb Brouwer had homers. Phyllis Horvath was the winning pitcher with J Yoder taking the loss Next game is Wednesday night. June 11. at Goshen. The field is located at the west end of Goshen high school football field, game time is 6 p.m. Bus leaves at 4:45. There will be a B-team game Thursday night at the junior high in Syracuse at 6 p.m. against Ligonier. The girls overall record is 5-1. Milford stops South Whitley in opening game Milford defeated South Whitley 5-1 in a pitchers battle to open the baseball season. The Pony League schedule for Milford has been released. w WHS golfers participate at regional By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee golf team competed in the 18 hole LaPorte regional last night. Winning the meet was Merrillville, who compiled a score of 324. Gary’ Andrean had 329 for a second place finish and Elkhart Central had 332 for third. Warsaw tallied a 338. The Warriors scored 344. A total of 15 schools were competing at the regional. The tribe might have placed higher, but one of the team’s leading players disqualified on the last hole. Therefore, the fifth player’s score was used. Scores for Wawasee were Sam Ludwig 40,39-79, Jon Owens 42. 41-83, Rob Zurcher 45,44-89, Bob Johnson 44, 49-93.

Linksters honored at outing

By SANDY GERENCSER The Warrior golfers along with their coach. Rudy Cesco, held an outing last week and honored the outstanding members of the team. Bob Johnson was recipient of the putting trophy. The low medalist trophy went to Sam Ludwig. Gary Miller was named the most improved golfer. *nie most valuable golfer trophy was awarded to Rob Zurcher.

Previously Jon Owens received the Robert W. Ellis Memorial Golf award. The golfers set several new school records this season. Bob Johnson set an individual record on a par 35 course with a 34. Gary Miller established a record on a 36 par course when he shot a 34. Other golfers honored during the evening were Phil Randall. Gary Brown, Brian Slabaugh, Mark Hoover/Rick McKibben, Dave Firestone, Scott Moore.

Dave Owens, Jim Hoover, Mark Walgamuth and Chris Henning. The varsity set a team record in an 18 hole meet when it shot a 305 — not once during the season but twice.
