was timed at 25 seconds flat — bettering the old record of 25.8 Lorene has never been beaten in the 220 during the season. Lorene also placed third in the 100 yard dash with a lime of 11.5. Thunderstorms plagued the state meet and the race was run against a stiff wind. The winning time for the race was 11.3 with second being clocked at 11.4. Ixrene holds the school record for the 100 at 11 seconds flat. Also representing Wawasee at the state meet was junior Barb Brouwer in the long jump and softball throw Although Barb did not make the finals she did establish the school record in the long jump as she leaped 17 jiet, 34 inches The winning jump in the meet was 18 feet. 10. inches. Barb pitched the softball 201 feet, not quite as good as the school record of 205 feet, eight inches, which she holds The winning throw was 242 feet, four inches.

Golfers third in NLC match

By SANDY GERENCSER Rudy Cescos Warrior golf team tied North Wood for third place in the Northern Lakes Conference after placing fourth in the conference match last Friday. The NLC match, which was at the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, was won by Warsaw with a total of 314. This makes the 11th straight conference match win for the Tigers. Other scores in the 18 hole match were Manchester 326. North Wood 330. Wawasee 336, Rochester 338. Bremen 344, Concord 346 and Plymouth 375. The Tigers nabbed the all conference golf title. With league totals figured on an 8-6-5-4-3 2-1 scale for the meet and one point each for conference wins during the season. Warsaw , had a score of 14. Manchester was runner-up with 10. Wawasee and North Wood tied at nine. The tie assured the Panthers of the league's allsports title as they have accumulated 115 points. Wawasee has 103 The top five medalists for the match were named They were Mike Brown 73 and Steve Reed 76. both of Warsaw; Steve Orpurt 77, Manchester; Greg Bigler 79, North Wood; and Jon Owens 80, Wawasee. Owens won his medal in a four-way sudden death playoff ; he sank a 10-foot putt on the second hole. Other scores for Wawasee were Sam Ludwig 87. Rob Zurcher 84. Bob Johnson 85 and Gary Miller 87. -Ma w.-- —» =- I1 ’ **; THIRD AT STATE — Dave Wollman. a 1975 graduate of Wawasee. won third in the discus at the state track meet last Saturday. Wollman had a throw of 151 feet, four inches while first and second were taken with hurls of ISS feet. 11 inches and 151 fee. seven inches, respectively. The conditions far the meet, however, were far from ideal as Wawasee track coach Jerry Minton described the weather as ‘rainy and lousy ”. He said that the platform from which the discus competitors threw was slippery as it was covered with nearly two inches of water. Wollman has had a fine season ail year as he compiled a record of 14-1. He was champion in the discus in the Goshen relays. East Noble relays and the Rochester relays. He was a member of the winning discus relay teams in the Concord relays and the Tippecanoe Valley relays. He was the high point man fas the East Noble relays as he emerged with 2* points — one of the highest point totals coach Minton has seen. The Wawasee field record is now held by Wollman as he set it at 154 feet, nine inches. He has also set numerous other records at other schools dicing the year. In addition to discus Dave won championships in the shot put in the Rochester and East Noble relays. Due to his high discus finish in the state. Dave was asked to be a member of the Indiana all-star team. The team will compete in a tristale meet with all-stars from Michigan and Ohio this Saturday (June 7). The meet is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Northrop Field in Fort Wayne.

Track and tennis teams are honored

By SANDY’ GERENCSER Monday night Wawasee held its awards program for the girls’ tennis team, the girls* track team and the boys’ track team. Girls' athletic director Marcia Carpenter was mistress of ceremonies Tennis Team Acknowledged The tennis team and its coach, Don Scholer. were the first to be honored. The most valuable player award went to Amy Purdum, a 1975 graduate, for the second year in a row. Sue Krug received the award for the most improved. Boys Take Turn Jerry Minton and his W’arrior track team were the next to be recognized He congratulated his boys on having “the most successful season in history”. The tribe came home with two relay championships this year — the Concord and East Noble relays — in addition to placing second in one relay and third in another The freshmen and sophomores were also champs in their relay. The team was second in the conference and had a season record of 12-5. Many school records also fell during the year. Four awards were given in track. The high point? trophy went to 1975 graduate Dave Wollman as he set a new school record with 191 points. However. Dave placed third in the discus in the state track meet so his final point total will probably exceed 200. The second high point trophy was awarded to Denny Spearman as he compiled 1(M points. The trophy for outstanding achievement was given to Dave Wollman. It goes without saying that Dave also took the award for most valuable athlete. Dave Wollman was “a rookie” to the team this year as he came out for the track team in his senior year. For more information on Dave’s achievements see another article elsewhere in the paper. Smith with the three championship trophies that it had won. Girls’ Track Recognized Marcia Carpenter introduced her track team and told of its achievements during the season. The girls were also very successful as they had a season record of 9-1. won the sectional and the regional, and sent two girls to compete at state. The team won the sectional with more points than any of its past championships as it totaled 106. The regional victory was the second for Wawasee as the Warriorettes also won it back in 1973. Many school records fell during the year and Lorene Spearman set a new state record in the 220 as she won the race in state competition last Friday. Four medallions were awarded. Recipient for most points in field events was Barb Brouwer. The award for most points in running events went to Lorene Spearman. The coach’s award was presented to Barb Yoder The MVP award was given to Lorene Spearman. Lorene was a state champion in the 220 and was not beaten in that event all year. She placed third in the 100 at state; it was her first defeat in that race this season. Maxwelton Ladies hold day's play Members of the Maxwelton Ladies day association at Syracuse held regular ladies day play on Wednesday with the following winners for the 18-hole division: First.
