A <a£ I'M Warriors take doubleheader By SANDY GERENCSER Bob Heady s Wawasee baseball team won both giames in the doubleheader at Fairfield last Saturday. The first game score was &4 while the second game was 12-2. Vince Rhodes was starting pitcher in the first game. He was relieved by Mark Smith in the seventh inning, who went ahead to pick up the win. Smith was three of five at the plate; he was good for a double, a triple and a home run Rhodes was also three of five and good for three singles. Brian McKay was credited with two doubles as he was two of five. The game went two extra innings after being deadlocked 4-4. Bryan Smith went all the way in the second game to pick up the win. Smith was also two of three at bat and had two doubles Brian McKay had a two run homer in the game. Al Kitson was two for two at the plate. Gary Dean drove in two runs with a double. SAM LUDWIG Low Medalist Wawasee second in triangular By SANDY GERENCSER Last Tuesday Rudy Cesco’s golf team placed second in a three-way meet with Goshen and South Bend Clay at the Goshen country club. W'inning the 18 hole “A” team match was Clay with 318 points. Wawasee totaled 320 and Goshen had 330. Wawasee's Sam Ludwig was low medalist for the meet as he shot a 76. Runner-up was Gary Miller, also of Wawasee, as he turned in a 77. The other tribe members scored as follows: Rob Zurcher 82, Jon Owens 85 and Bob Johnson 86. South Bend Clay — J. Zawlocki 79. A total of 17 schools participated. Warriors nip Central Noble By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee baseball team defeated Central Noble, 1-0, in a home game Monday night. The game turned out to be a pitching battle with winning pitcher Mark Smith going all the way. He allowed three hits but gave no walks and had eight strike outs. Gary Dean got the tribe’s only hit and it was a double. Wawasee scored in the fifth inning. After one out, Vince Rhodes struck out but then got to first when the ball got past the catcher. Al Kitson hit into a fielder’s choice and got to first. Kitson then stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored for the Warriors on a second wild pitch.
