Syracuse and North Webster last Friday. They checked a total of 433 bicycles and placed reflectors on the wheels. Kneeling from left are Sherman Bryant. Dean Hartle. Bob Day and John Weeks. Standing are Richard Monk from the sheriff s department: Ralph Haynes; Don Martin; Gerry Moser, with the sheriff s department; Jay Boyer; Dick Long; and Dean Jessup The Kiwanis club will sponsor a bike-a-thon on Mas 31 with entry blanks available at all Xugsburger's stores. * The purpose is to pros ide increased and sustained programs for youth in the Lakeland area. The project w ill pros ide money for additional opportunities and services and w ill help create a new public awareness and concern for what the Kiwanis club is doing for the youth. Anyone who wishes to ride can. The riders will meet at the Augsburger’s stores in the three communities and ride from the parking lots on a route approximately 15 miles, returning to the stores. - A rain date has been set for June 7.

Wawasee nipped by Concord By SANDY GERENCSER The Wamorette tennis team lost to Concord last Wednesday. 4-3. in a meet at Concord. Winning after three sets 6-3. 67. 6-3 was Amy Purdum. Meg Schopf whipped her opponent 6-1. 6-3. Dawn Price fell in her segment of the meet 2-6. 1-6. Sue Krug topped her foe 7-5, 6-2. Teresa Carpenter was defeated 57, 1-6. In doubles action Jill Farrell and .Alice Gunden were beaten 36. 2-6. Karen Butcher and Pat McQuillian lost 0-6, 1-6. The tennis team will be involved in the tennis sectional which runs from May 19th to the 23d
Warriorettes annihilate foes in track sectional
By SANDY GERENCSER Marcia Carpenter’s girls’ track team won the sectional, which was at Goshen, last night (Tuesday). Wawasee raced past all others leaving them in 4 cibud of dust. Wawasee scored 106 points while the next highest score was 44 by Elkhary Central! Other scores wortlrnoting were Goshen 37*2. Elkhart Memorial 37. North Wood 30 and East Noble 21. Wawasee also had the honor of having the two high point girls for the sectional. Lorene Spearman was tops with 204 points and Barb Brouwer was right on her Tennis team defeats Warsaw By SANDY GERENCSER The girls tennis team edged host Warsaw last Thursday 4-3. The W’arriorettes were defeated in the first three singles matches but triumphed the remaining matches for the win. Amy Purdum was beaten 2-0. 06 and Meg Schopf lost 3-6. 3-6. Dawn Price was defeated in a close match after three sets 6-7. 75. 2-6. Sue Krug and Teresa Carpenter had identical 6-3. 6-1 scores in each of their individual matches. heels with 20 points. In the softball throw Barb Brouwer won with a distance of 193 feet, one inch; Kathy Beer took second. Barb Brouwer was again first as she won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet. 10 inches. Winning the 100 yard dash in 11 seconds flat was Lorene Spearman; Barb Yoder placed fourth. Kelly Hamman set a new school record as she won the 440 dash in :62.6. Roxana Auer placed second in a very fast 880 run; she set a new school record with a time of 2:35.5 while the girl that won clocked 2;30. In the 80 yard hurdles Teresa Wiegand finished fourth. Wawasee second in Northern Lakes meet
By SANDY GERENCSER Jerry Minton’s track team finished second in the Northern Lakes Conference standings last Thursday as it placed second in the conference meet. A strong North Wood team took top honors with a score of 111 points. Wawasee’s total of 76 was good enough to takb second. Other scores were Warsaw 74. Plymouth. 69. Concord. 57, Manchester 54. Bremen 12 and Rochester 11. Although Wawasee had no first [dace winners, it had several second place winners and three school records broken. The mile relay team — Chad Singrey, Tim Hamman. Rick Dahlstrom and Steve Kroh - turned in one of the fastest area times as it set the school record at 3:31.2 with its second place finish Denny Spearman bettered his record in the high hurdles as he clocked 15.4 for second place. Coming in fourth in the mile and still bettering his record was Doug Shock as he turned 4:40. ; Dave Wollman was defeated for the first time this year in the discus; he took second while Jerry Rhodes notched third. Brian Lemberg and Dave Wollman were 2-3 in the shot. Chad Singrey tied a contestant from Manchester for second in the high jump. Warriors fall 3-2 to Goshen By SANDY GERENCSER The unearned runs swung the baseball victory to Goshen's side last Friday in a home game for Wawasee. 3-2. The Redskins picked up unearned runs in the third and fifth innings. Wawasee picked up its runs in the sixth inning. The Warriors loaded the bases on singles by Dale Ganz and Mark Smith and on a walk by Brian McKay. Ganz came home on a fielder's choice which then put runners on first and third. This set Doug Pollock up for a suicide squeeze Bryan Smith suffered the loss for Wawasee while Jeff Hossler picked up the win. Wawasee 000 002 0-2 Goshen 002 010 0-5 TO GOSHEN COLLEGE — Juan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Juan M. Carvajal, Sr., of Milford, has enrolled at Goshen college. He will begin attending May 22 following his graduation Sunday from Wawasee high school. He plans to study in the field of math and music, secondaryeducation. Juan has been an outstanding student, athlete and musician. He has actively participated in 15 various clubs and musical groups at Wawasee high school.

Serena Walker. Angie Mock and Rhonda Byrd, finished third. All of the girls in the events listed above, with the exception of the 880 medley relay team, qualified for the regional meet. The regional will be the 21st at Fort Wayne Concordia.

Wawasee blanks Northfield 3-0 By SANDY GERENCSER Bob Heady’s Warrior baseball team beat Northfield 3-0 last Thursday on the Wawasee diamond. The man of the day was winning pitcher Mark Smith as he had 12 strike outs, one walk and gave up four hits. Smith was two for two at the plate and scored two runs. The Peasant." The students made their own scenery. Viewing the play were other fourth grade students and several parents.
. & It4r m ‘ RIDE ENGINE — The kindergarten children in, Mrs. Everts’ classes at North Webster elementary school were recently taken for a ride on a 1922 model steam engine, owned and operated by LarryLewallen, Sr. The engine is a 124 ton, 2475 Port Huron engine. For 20 years it graded all the gravel roads between Nappanee and Bremen.
