■ TO CELEBRATE 5Mh ANNIVERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Leroy Greer of r 3 Syracuse will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on May 18. A buffet luncheon will be served at the Scout Cabin in Syracuse between 1 and l p.m. They were married in Rochester on May 20. 1525. She is the former Thelma Roberts of Macy. * The couple has one son. Ralph Roberts Greer. He and his wife Ramona live in Topeka. They have three grandsons. Ralph Robert Greer and wife Rhonda. Gary and wife Jan. live in Millersburg; and Stephen Greer and wife Vicki live in Goshen. The couple also has four stepgrandchildren. Mrs. Alfred (Alice) Gamble of Oklahoma City. Okla.; Mrs. Ralph (Susie) Morrison of Midwest City. Okla.; Mrs. Danny (Linda) Warren of Eden. N. ('.: and Charles Puckett of Topeka. Kan They also hate four greate grandchildren. Mr. Greer retired after 38 years at Western Rubber in Goshen. Mrs. Greer was employed as a telephone operator in Macy. Peru. Rochester and al General telephone in Goshen.
Calvary ladies hold mother-daughter event
. ' Hands of Christian Fellowship” was the theme used for the mother and daughter banquet of Calvary United Methodist church last week al Oakwood Park hotel. Syracuse There were 160 mothers, daughters, grandmothers and other special guests in at tendance . WCTU holds birthday dinner The North Webster Anna Bowers Chapter Women’s Christian Temperance Union held its annual birthday dinner May 6 in the home of Mrs Joe Barrett. A carry-in dinner was enjoyed at noon. with a birthday cake for all present Especially honored were Ruth Rothenberger. Betty Barrett and little Kathleen Richcreek who was just three years old on the sth — all three having May birthdays The business meeting was opened. following the dinner by the president. Mrs. Lawrence Wilcoxson. followed by all singing “A Prayer.” led by Mrs. Rhoda Mock. Devotions were given by our devotional leader, Mrs Russell Baker Roll call was answered with a poem or reading about mother, or a Bible verse A Litany, ”To My Mother”, was given by Mrs Steven Richcreek and Mrs Dennis Richcreek, both visitors "A Tribute to a Mean Mother” (which appeared in The Mail Journal in 1972 was read by Mrs Barrett Following the business meeting, a white ribbon service was held, with white ribbons tied on the wrists of little Kathleen Richcreek, daughter of Mr and Mrs Dennis Richcreek and little Christina Richcreek, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Steven Richcreek Gifts were given to the little girls and the service conducted by Mrs. Barrett who is both local and county director of the home protection department. Prayers for the white ribbon service were offered by Mrs Baker and Mrs Virginia Bockman Another visitor was Mrs. Everett Peters of Barbee The next meeting will be the first Tuesday m June at the North Webster Church of the Brethren Busy Homemakers meet with Mrs. Hollar The Busy Homemakers club of the Milford area met at the home of Mrs Irene Hollar on May 7. Mrs Anna Cripe was co host ess President. Mrs. Frank Charlton, opened the meeting in the usual form "America the Beautiful” was sung and the pledge to the flag was led by Mrs Glen Pinkerton ‘'Forgetting yourself is Happiness” was the meditation read by Mrs. Anna Cripe. The garden lesson by Mrs Vernon May was on spraying house plants and watering roses. The health and safety lesson was “Helps on dieting,” and was given by Jtrs Hollar The birthday song was sung and a poem, ”1. Myself and Me” was read by Mrs William Motts for the May birthday's. Honored were Mrs Harold Geiger and Mrs Cnpe A gift was presented from the club to Mrs Firrest George for her 50th wedding anniversary. The meeting closed with the dub collect which was led by Mrs Ralph Tusing A silent auction was held Mrs. Hollar and Mrs. Cripe served refreshments to 11 members and one guest. Lakeland teachers marry at Winona Lake in March
A spring garden theme was used for the wedding of Miss Phyllis Bolt and David Matz when the couple married in the Free Methodist church at Winona on March 22. Both teach in the Lakeland Community School Corporation. The new Mrs. Matz is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Ervin J. Bolt of r 1 Pierceton. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Matzos Sullivan are parents of the bridegroom. Rev Gene Kuehn, pastor of the Warsaw Church of God, officiated Beverly Bolt attended her sister as maid of . honor. Mrs. Charles Blankenship of Warsaw served as her sister’s bridesmaid as did Mrs. Jack Wiley of Anderson and Mrs. Ron Combs of Portland. Oreg All wore gowns of floral print. Charles Gatto of Dyer was the best man Groomsmen were George Vilaniemi ot Syracuse. Terry Kennedy of Hazel Crest, 111., and Brent Anderson of Indianapolis. Both sets of parents greeted guests at the reception which followed in the church's fellowship hall. The cake was lopped with a miniature bride and bridegroom which had been used on the cake of the bride's parents at their wedding. Some 400 handmade daisies decorated the cakes which were served. relatives of the couple enjoyed a buffet supper in the International Friendship House's garden room. Ervin Bolt, Jr., served as master of ceremonies “This is your life Dave and Phyllis” from the couple's first meeting date. The couple has returned from a wedding trip to Lake of the Ozarks. Mo., and is at home on r 3 Syracuse. Senior Citizens honor mothers The Milford Senior Citizens met Sunday, May 11, for their regular monthly meeting in the fire station for a carry-in dinner. There were 20 in attendance from New Paris, Syracuse and Warsaw. The program was on “Old American Month” and its origin. Mrs. Iva Neff read “Colonial Days”. Everyone gave their remembrance of their mother. A "Happy Birthday” was sung to all having a birthday in the month of May. Mrs. Amanda Davisson and Mrs. Rebecca Ross were appointed to select a senior queen of Milford The oldest mother attending was Mrs. Martha Souder. 87. The youngest mother was Mrs. Helene Faulkner, 57.
Garden club takes true nature walk Members of the SyracuseWawasee Garden club met on May 6 at the home of Mrs. James E. Lesh. with Mrs. Carrington Yeager and Mrs. Allan Stackhouse assisting. Mrs. Robert H. Warner of Sterling, 111., was a guest. Members met early in order to take a nature walk through the woods, prior to the meeting. The program on herbs was by Mrs. Marion Rohn who pointed out the best way to have fresh herbs is to grow your own. Many herbs, thrive as well indoors in pots as out of doors in the garden, according to the speaker, who gave helpful suggestions on planting and care for herbs, plus freezing and drying. Mrs. Rohn had condensed much mimeographed material which was distributed in addition to a handbook and a complimentary packet of seeds. Mrs. Harry Appenzeller continued the monthly study of the Saint Paulia plant and gave advice on transplanting. She also told of new varieties and how to choose them. Garden center chairman. Mrs. Richard Clingaman. reported the library arrangement for May is entitled, “America the Beautiful” and is composed of spring flowers and foliage. A report on Arbor Day by Mrs. Harmon Harper indicated that two trees had been planted this year Mrs. Gale Chapman, bird studychairman. gave an informative talk on “How Birds Behave.” The club's president. Mrs. R. C. Tytler, announced that a plant auction and guest night would be held on June 3 at Calvary United Methodist church Past matrons hold initiation Mrs. Deloss Weaver was hostess for the May 6 meeting of the Past Matrons club of Syracuse, chapter 283. Order of Eastern Star, at which time initiation was held. Co-hostess was Mrs. Keith Smallwood. Initiated were Mrs. Clair Mohler, junior past matron. Mrs. Cecil Grove and Mrs. Mildred Corson. There were 20 members in attendance. Mrs. Maude Jackson was a guest Mrs. Harry Gingerich presided at the business meeting. Refreshments were served at the close of the evening.

The marriage of Julia Shroyer and Karlton Goon was held recently in: the North Winona Church of the Brethren Rev. Lester Young officiated at the double ring ceremony. The Lakeland Afternoon Bridge-o-rama met at a North Webster restaurant for a luncheon meeting on May 5. The chairmen. Mrs. Ralph Clingaman and Mrs. Dale Allen, announced the following winners: Gross, first place, Verna Knauer and Barbara Medlock; second place, Mrs. Clingaman and Mrs. Allen; third place, Mrs. James Kirkwood and Mrs. Jess Pritchett. Net winners, first place, Mrs Walter Gotshall and Mrs. Allen Stackhouse; second place, Mrs. Peter Blue and Mrs. Granddaughter to wed in Tucson, Arii. Mrs. Rebecca Kitson of Syracuse announces the approaching marriage of her granddaughter. Kim Quail, to Michael Kowalczyk, on June 7. The ceremony will take place at the Catalina United Methodist church in Tucson, Ariz.

Other gentlemen attendants were Lloyd Shroyer, Thames Goon, Karl Shively, Matt Warren and Bill Degaetano. Following the ceremony, the couple greeted 250 guests in the church social room. Afterwards, a buffet supper was held at the bride’s parents’ home. Mr. and Mrs. Goon are residing at r 4 Warsaw.
