WHS number one at Concord relays
By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee track team edged conference leader North Wood to win the Concord relay championship. The Warriors won with 72 points as North Wood took second with 71. A total of eight schools participated. Other scores were as follows: Concord 68, Goshen 60, South Bend Jackson 53, Plymouth 42, South Bend Clay 23 and South Bend Saint Joe 14. Amy Purdum won her match 63. 6-0 Meg Schopf topped her foe 6-3, 6-2. Dawn Price whipped her adversary 6-1, 6-1 Sue Krug was victorious 6-0, 6-1. Teresa Carpenter topped her foe 6-0. 6-1. Jill Farrell and Alice Gunden were winners in doubles 6-1, 6-3. Pat McQuillian and Karen Butcher took their match 6-2, 6-0. Meg Schopf toppled 1-6, 3-6. and Dawn Price lost 4-6, 0-6. Sue Krug was victorious in her match 6-2. 6-2 Teresa Carpenter was downed 4-6, 1-6. Alice Gunden and Jill Farrell were beaten in their doubles match 5-7, 1-6. Karen Butcher and Pat McQuillian were defeated in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 0-6. In exhibition Cindy Franke and Chervl Skelton lost 1-10.
Warriorettes turn Tigers inside-out
By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee girls’ track team, which is coached by Marcia Carpenter, demolished host Warsaw recently. 85-19. The Warriorettes took first place in all events. The 80 yard hurdles were won by Teresa Wiegand Lorene Spearman and Barb Yoder were first and second in the 100 yard dash Jenny Boyer placed first in the mile. Wawasee swept the 440; Kelly Hamman was first while Terri Holtzclaw and Marie Kitson were second and third respectively. Roxana Auer was the winner in the 880; Benji Hall was third , Lorene Spearman and Barb Yoder were first and second respectively in the 220. Wawasee participates in Elkhart tennis invitational
By SANDY GERENCSER Don Schaler's tennis team went to Elkhart last Saturday for an invitational. No team scores were figured but two Warriorettes advanced to finals action. Dawn Price won her first match 11-5, and her second 6-0. 61 Sue Krug advanced to second round competition after winning 10-3; she took the second match 76. 6-4. Both girls were rained out in their final matches. Their opponents were both from Elkhart Memorial Meg Schopf and Teresa Carpenter were defeated in their second rounds Both won their first round by default. Softball League to form at Wawasee A girls softball league will be formed at Wawasee high this Saturday. May 10. The organizational meeting will be held in the commons area beginning at 10 a.m. All girls who will be entering the freshman, sophomore, junior or senior classes next fall are welcome to attend. John Replogle will be coaching the team. Games will be played through July.

SWIMMING PRACTICE TO BEGIN MAY 19 A notice is being given to all competitive swimmers that practice will begin on Monday. May 19, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Wawasee high school pool. Any boy or girl who is interested in competitive swimming should be present at the first practice. They\are asked to be ready to swim. There is a need to prepare for the summer competition which begins in June. All additional information will be available at the first practice. There is a $3 per swimmer charge. Persons who cannot attend the meeting and practice should call the high school to sign up. DEPRESSION NOW? Labor leader George Meany says the nation’s unemployment rate amounts to a depression. Golfers tripped by Squires
By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee golf team lost to Manchester Monday evening in a nine hole meet, 161-149. The meet was at the Sycamore course. Bob Johnson was the tribe s leader as he shot a 37. The Warriors just couldn’t compete with the Squires punch that night. Four of Manchester’s five players were in the 30’s. The junior varsity salvaged its half of the meet as it won 166-181. Minor accident in drive-in parking lot Syracuse police investigated a two-vehicle mishap at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot at the Maryann Drive-In in Syracuse where $250 in damage was estimated. The accident occurred as Richard Powers. Ferndale, Mich., backed his 1973 Dodge into a parked 1969 Buick. The Buick was owned by Margaret E. Hall of Milford which sustained $250 in damage. There was none to the Dodge.
