East Noble won with 54 points; Wawasee sewed 53 while DeKalb had 52. A new school record was set by Denny Spearman in the high hurdles. He clocked :15.7 but placed third in the event. Rick Bauman tied the existing school record of 21 seconds flat in the low hurdles as he placed second. Uvi Carvajal ran away with the
100 and 220 yard dashes. He had a personal best of :10.4 in the 100. Dave Wollman also had a personal best as he won the discus. He hurled the platter 146 feet, five inches. Wawasee swept the top three places in the shot put. Bryan Lemberg had first place honors. Dave Wollman and Mitch Ousley were second and .third respectively. Time: 3:33.2 The junior varsity was beaten in its half of the meet. East Noble again took first with 72 points. DeKalb notched 60 and Wawasee had 21. Winners for the team were Marty Welker in the mile run and Andy Wollman in the discus. Wollman was second in the shot put. Third place finishers were Greg Evans in the 100, Joel Popenfoose in the 440 and Doug Shock in the two miles. Coming in fourth were Steve Kroh in the 880 and Mike Ousley in the 220. Next Tuesday the team will journey to Warsaw for a conference meet with the Tigers and the Squires of Manchester.

Baseball team falls in opener
By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee baseball team lost its opening game to Elkhart Central last Wednesday 4-3 in a game at Elkhart. Central came from behind in the ninth inning as i. scored an unearned run for the victory. The Elkhart ball club scored in the first inning but a trio of runs in the second gave the Warriors a 3-1 edge. Elkhart came back one in the fifth and once in the seventh to tie the game. The winning run came home when the catcher failed to control the ball after a missed squeeze bunt situation. Mark Smith gave a fine pitching performance as he struck out eight, walked three and yielded but one earned run. The winning pitcher. Dan Nommay, struck out 12, walked eight and gave up three earned runs to the Warriors. Both pitchers gave up five hits. Second inning scoring for coach Bob Heady’s tribe came byway of five walks, a run scoring single by Doug Pollock and a single by Jeff Miller which brought in another two runs.
