APRIL 8.1970 A smaller but no less strident group of citizens from the proposed annexation area 2 to the town of Syracuse turned up last Wednesday night at the Syracuse scout cabin to discuss the merits of annexation. A 4-inch snow in a 60-minute period Thursday morning stopped much traffic in the Lakeland area with cars and trucks not making the hill grade on Huntington street in Syracuse. Linda Pilcher and J. M. Wortinger were wed on March 20 in the Bethany Church of the Brethren at New Paris. Work is in full swing at the Lake Wawasee fish hatchery site to renovate the area as a public facility. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gray visited the 68-acre Ringling museum property while vacationing recently in Florida's lower west coast. 10 YEARS AGO. APRIL 14.1965 Orval Klink is announcing plans for a shopping complex to be built in Wawasee Village in the near future on a tract of land 175 x 200' just south of Thornburg Drug and a 6-acre tract east of that parcel. Syracuse police will again participate in the state safety check program this year with several check lanes to be set in the town area.

William Elliott was fatally injured Wednesday of last week when his hand and arm entangled in a belt of a large machine at the stone quarry where he worked near Ridgeville and was jerked into the machine, hitting his head on a bolt, a blow which proved fatal. Dr. E. L. Fosbrink was in Indianapolis Tuesday for a meeting of the state academy of geneal practioners. 45 YEARS AGO. APRIL 17.1930 Fifty members of the Loyal Home Economics club and families held a hard-times party on April 5 at the Loren Ewer home. Syracuse friends were shocked at the sudden death of Mrs Jesse Shock. 50. early this morning of an apparent heart attack. Because there are none around here, and because there is no open season in Indiana, six pairs of Chinese pheasants were released Sunday morning by Harry B. Strieby on his farm four miles south of Syracuse. Germs are shown in a test of city water here, and water must be boiled for safe drinking, with investigation continuing to determine the origin. TRANSFERRED TO N. C. — Jack Cluen. president of United of Indiana since 1967. will become president of Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company effective June 1. The company is located at Tarboro. N. C. Cluen joined the company in 1937 as an accounting clerk. He has been active in the civic affairs of the Warsaw area. He is married to the former Winnifred Sanders of Warsaw. They have two children. Mrs. Cluen has served as a member of the Warsaw school board for several years. Theft comptaints lodged at station Numerous theft complaints were made during the past week at the Syracuse police station. Raymond Kitson of 442 Parkway dirve, Syracuse, listed a complaint at 4:40 p.m. oh Thursday of gas being stolen from his auto during the night while parked at his home. He said the incident had happened several times. Charles Causey of Syracuse reported 240 gallons of diesel fuel missing from his truck Thursday morning while sitting in front of his residence located on the corner of Benton and Harrison streets. Charles Coburn. 430 Dolan drive, reported late Wednesday evening of the theft of his 1967 orange Chevelle which was left in the Thornburg parking lot due to a flat tire. Numerous items were in the auto including a basketball, a box of .22 shells, assorted handtools, photo albums and a green coat. Orville E. Evans of south seventh street reported at 2:25 am. Saturday the theft of an eight-track AM-FM radio record player, two speakers, 100 records, valued at $760 and S6O in cash.

Diane Wuthrich injured when car hits fence A car driven by Diane E. Wuthrich of r 2 Milford slid Thursday on icy pavement into a fence. The accident occurred on CR 1250 near the Delbert Dippon residence on r 2 Milford. She received a cut over the right eye and complained of pain to the hip and neck. ’ Kosciusko county police Sgt. Alan Rovenstine investigated. Damage was estimated at $875 to the automobile and SIOO to the fence.

No injuries were sustained in two separate auto accidents last Thursday due to icy conditions following the winter storm during the night.
