Cars collide at intersection A car driven by Brian F. McKay, 18, r 1 Leesburg, collided with an auto driven by James B. Stambaugh. Burket, when attempting a right turn onto CR 4 from SR 15. 14 YEARS AGO, APRIL 13.1961 Mrs. Joe Kaiser, r 2 Milford, is an ardent fan of President Kennedy and told him as much in a recent letter she wrote the President. She was surprised later to receive the following note from the president: Many thanks for your message of congratulations. I am most grateful for your confidence and good will. I am greatly encouraged that we can meet our vital national objectives as a united people. John F. Kennedy Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Woiferman entertained Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schultz and Mr. and Mrs. John Perry and Diane at dinner Sunday in honor of their son Steven for his birthday. Milford school band went to Lowell Saturday to compete in the state contest. The band received a superior rating in sight reading and excellent rating in concert playing. Final rating for the band was excellent in the state contest. Mr. and Mrs. P. D. McFarren returned Saturday evening after spending two months in Melbourne, Fla. They report a perfect winter season with plenty of warm temperatures. However. P. D. says fishing was very poor in that part of the state. 24 YEARS AGO. APRIL 12,1951 Some 10,000 persons from nearly every state are expected to attend the annual conference of the Old German Baptist church, to be held May 13 to 15 in a “Tent city” on the 54-acre farm of Austin Culp of Goshen. The last time Elkhart county was host to the Old German Baptists at their nationwide conference was in 1903. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Cory enjoyed cake and ice cream with the Neal Cory family on Thursday evening. Friday. April 6, was Neal’s birthday, and Saturday, the 7th was the 11th anniversary of his and Mrs. Cory’s wedding. BIRTHS: A son. Philip, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Price Wednesday. 30 YEARS AGO. APRIL 12,1945 Mrs. Everett Butrick suffered a fracture of the large bone of the right arm at the wrist when she fell while descending the stairway in her home. She was carrying John Nutting, year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nutting of Elkhart, who suffered no injuries due to the fall. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wise are the proud parents of a baby girl, Janice, born April 9 at the McDonald hospital. Miss Betty Jane Striggle became the bride of Sgt. Dale Wuthrich, son of Mrs. Minnie Wuthrick of Milford. Wednesday evening, April 4, at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Jack Taylor, at South Whitley. The marriage of Harold Beer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Beer, and Miss Betty Jane Felkner was solemnized in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Felkner at Indianapolis, Saturday. APRIL 11.1935 Henry Beer is erecting a new 18x70 greenhouse at his present location, as he has taken up new work which will require additional plant material. A pretty spring wedding took place April 6. when Miss Joy Dausman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Dausman of Oswego, became the bride of Donald Fox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Fox of near Milford, at the Dausman home. The groom is employed by the Anderson Oil Co. here. FROM MONTREAL - The Montreal metropolitan commission has hired a “Tarzan” to bring order to the bankrupt village of St. Michel. Seeking an inexpensive method of keeping the wilder villagers from creating trouble while they tried to straighten out the Village’s financial affairs, the commission hired ex-Capt. Z. Desmarteau, former weight lifting champion of the Montreal police department. and sent him to St. Michel. The man is 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 280 pounds. Mrs. V. G. Hursey entertained 14 guests Wednesday evening, April 3, in honor of her husband whose birthday anniversary occurred on that day, and who was completely surprised when the guests ‘sneaked in’ on him.
