[New Salem* | By MRS. HERB MOREHOUSE | “In the Garden” was the hymn featured Sunday morning. Pastor Woodburn delivered the morning message “Lest We Forget” from I Corinthians 15:1-11. Pastor Woodburn’s father, Rev. Fred Woodburn, delivered the evening message “Philosophy of Christian Living”. Rev. Woodburn has recently retired from the missionary field in Ecuador and will soon be assuming a pastorate in the USA. Communion services will be held Thursday evening at 7:30. Easter Sunrise services will be at 7 a.m x with breakfast following. Sunday school is at 9:30 a m. and worship services ' are at 10:30. The young people will be in charge of the evening service at 7:30. The public is invited to attend all services. Work night was held Tuesday evening Homemade ice cream and cake were served with coffee later in the evening. Rev. and Mrs. Fred Woodbum of Ecuador are visiting with their son and (family. Pastor and Mrs. Chad Woodburn. Mr. and Mrs. Vic Virgil spent the week end on a mission witness program at Dunkirk. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Ratcliff of Mississippi returned Mrs. Amanda Stackhouse to her Leesburg home last week. They are visiting relatives here for a week Local student does student teaching GREENVILLE, S.C. - Miss Da Denise Cooper, a senior music education major at Bob Jones diversity, Greenville, S. C., is doing her student teaching this semester in the Greenville county school system. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Cooper of Syracuse. There are 85 education majors from the university doing their student teaching this semester. According to Dr ” Walter G. Fremont, dean of the school of education, a total of 175 graduating seniors will meet certification requirements this year to teach. Their work is supervised by five university supervisors and the regular teachers of the classes in which they are serving their “Apprenticeship.” For the past 23 years seniors in the School of Education at Bob Jones university have made scores higher than the national average on the national teachers examination. Bob Jones university, known as the “World’s Most Universal University," is a liberal arts, coeducational. Christian institution. Each year the university matriculates more than 5,000 students who come from every state in the Union and about 40 foreign countries and territories. Girl Scout cookies are OK in area NEW YORK, N. Y. - Girl Scouts of the USA said today that reports of inert foreign matter in thin mint Girl Scout cookies are referring to those manufactured by the Burry division of the Quaker Oats Company, which advises that the code number 5034 is embossed on the package. Only 11 councils in the United Slates have received thin mint cookies bearing this code. To the knowledge of Scout leaders in Elkhart, Noble, Whitley and Kosciusko counties, no shipment of code 5034 has been received in this area. Quaker has released a statement listing results of their tests where 5,000 cookies had been checked. No glass was found. “In our own extremely thorough testing,” the Quaker statement said, “we found a small number of tiny particles of inert polystyrene packaging materials that do not appear to be a problem, testing is continuing. In the meantime, we urge that Burry thin mint cookies of code date 5034 not be consumed :. . ” Alts leaving Milford church Rev. James Alt announced Sunday morning to members of the Milford United Methodist church’s congregation he was leaving the church, effective April 13, and would be joining the lay ministry.
