The Junior High division of the Land 0* Lakes Junior Bowling association had its double-singles event at the bowling alley south of Syracuse on Saturday. March 22. Track ready to start tomorrow at WHS

By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee track season will start tomorrow (Thursday) as the Warriors will host Northridge at 4:30. The boys will be coached by Jerry Minton; he will be assisted by W'alter Lunsford. Coach Minton says the team is composed of about 40 boys — nine returning lettermen and “lots of good rookies”. He expects to call on the lettermen a lot. Coming back in sprints are Uvi Carvajal. Dan Walker. Ralph Reiff and Chad Singrey. Tim Yoder is returning in hurdles. Doug Shock, Toby Popenfoose. Tim Hamman and Steve Kroh will be distance men this year. Coming back as letter winning managers are Wes Bell and Marie Wilkey. New to the team this year is

Dave Wollman. who is expected to be a good scorer in weight events. Many freshmen have a fine opportunity to earn some varsity points. Heading the frosh are Kevin Gilbert in distances and Steve Cromer in dashes. Dean Burchard will be an asset as he returns this year, but he will have to get rid of a preseason injury. Junior Denny Spearman could be a surprise this year in hurdles. Wawasee will be strong this year in discus with Dave Wollman and Jerry Rhodes, long jump with Ralph Reiff and Uvi Carvajal, shot with Dave Wollman and Bryan Lemberg, and high jump with Chaa Singrey. Doug Shock is expected to be strong in the mile and twomile runs. Steve Kroh and Tim Hamman should be good in the 880 relay.

Fire run made to Cranberry Hill Syracuse volunteer firemen responded to a call at 1:27 p.m. Thursday to an area along Cranberry Hill just north of Syracuse on road 13 into Elkhart county. The fire, of unknown origin, was along the roadside at the William Sloan farm and reported by a passerby. There was no damage.

Gymnastics regional is held at Wawasee

By SANDY GERENCSER Wawasee high school hosted the gymnastics regional last Friday evening. All three levels were competing — beginning, intermediate and optional. In the optional meet Wawasee placed third as a team with 67.60 points. Taking first was Portage 78.75 and second was Munster with 74.10. The remaining teams were Jimtown 31.80, LaPorte 23.75 and Merrillville 23.65. The top four winners in each event were as follows: Floor exercises — Kathy Rice (J) 8.45. Mary Vance (Mun) 8.15, Jenny Cox (W) 7.85 and Paula Wager (Mer) 7.70. Unevens — Sheryl Cook (P) 7.60, Kathy Rice (J) 7.34, Sandy Homer (P) 7.30. Millers promoted to regular judges John and Barbara Miller of r 3 Syracuse have received word from the American Water Ski association’s national judges commission that they have been promoted from assistant judges to regular judges for water ski competition This makes Mrs. Miller the only woman judge in the state of Indiana to hold a regular judgeship. The Millers are active in both the Dewart Lake and Indiana State ski clubs.
