Wawasee girls win first in sectional; regional Friday
The optional gymnastics team, coached by Marcia Carpenter, won the sectional meet which it hosted last Wednesday The team, consisting of five girls — Peg Beer, Barb Yoder, Peg Clay. Jenny Cox and Rhonda Byrd, scared a total of 70 45 points Other schools competing on the optional level and their scores follow John Adams, the defending sectional champ, 62 85. Jimtown 53.55. North Wood 36 70. Concord 8 35. and Manchester 7 55 In vaulting Kathy Rice i J > won with 795 points Jenny Cox <W> placed second as she scored 7 30 Becky Hentz (JA* and Susan Wenger (NW) tied for third at 6 15. Teresa Wiegand will compete in the floor exercises at the regional Auer associate pro at Wawasee Don Byrd, pro-owner of the Wawasee golf course at Syracuse, has announced Robert Auer will serve as associate golf pro at the club for the coming golf season. Auer has served as pro at other courses in the area, most recently at Maxwelton Auer, his wife and family reside in Milford. Archery shoot held March 2 The Hoss Hills Bowmen, Inc., held an indoor archery’ shoot at the clubhouse near Syracuse on Sunday . March 2. There were 560 points possible. Winners follow. title. This is the fourth straight year that Warsaw has won the NLC wrestling cahmpionship. It was also the first time in the 11year history of the conference that one team, Rochester, won two consecutive undisputed titles going undefeated both years. Wawasee was fifth in wrestling standings and fourth in basketball standings. Behind Warsaw in the wrestling standings were North Wood. Manchester. Plymouth. Wawasee. Concord, Rochester and Bremen. Following Rochester in basketball standings were Warsaw. Plymouth. Wawasee, Concord. Manchester, North Wood and Bremen. A third year letterman he shot 46 per cent from the field and 64 per cent from the free throw line in NLC action. Kerry Weidner, a senior from Plymouth. He had an 18.9 average in NLC action and shot 44 per cent from the field and 74 s per cent from the free throw line. John Carr, a senior from Rochester. He hit 49 per cent from the field and 91 per cent from the free throw line in conference play. He averaged about 10 rebounds a game in NLC and was Mr. Consistant. He had no bad games. Rob Staley, a senior from Warsaw Rob averaged about 16 points per game in NLC action. He averaged over 15 points a game. 46 per cent from the field and led his team in rebounds in NLC play. , • Rocky Goshert, a senior at Warsaw. He was Mr. Hustle and Desire as he averaged 13 points in NLC play. He shot 44 per cent from the field. 71 per cent from free throw line.
