CANCER SOCIETY MEMBERS — Pictured above are member* of the Kosciusko county society discussing the breast self examination clinic being held throughout the county, during February and March. Dr. David Haines, professional education committee chairman, states that two recent developments givf high hope that through earlier detection most of the 33.000 breast cancer deaths yearly can be avoided. To aid In the growing awareness of the importance of self examination, the Kosciusko county unit is conducting a series of 11 free breast self-examination clinics. Each session includes a film, a physician for a question and answer period, a speaker and a demonstration doll. Anyone needing transportation should contact Jackie Kelchner.

Syracuse Scouts hold lock-in party event
Syracuse Boy Scouts had a first this month when holding a lock-in style party event at the scout cabin. This is thought to be a first in the county. There were 47 boys attending, including 15 already in scouting, with 20 planning to join the troop. Adults present included Joe Catt, scoutmaster, Cliff Nicodemus, Jun Smith and Tom Ryman. Attending for a short time prior to the lock-in of the cabin, were Jim Nelson, Ed Harting and John Naab. be an Eagle Scout, the ultimate goal in Scouting. Some of the steps were becoming a scout, working to tenderfoot, second class, first class, star, life and then the final goal. A number of games were played and several scout films shown. Local scouts attended the Kosciusko county Klondike derby, sled race, and overnight camp out in January. This month, leaders Catt and Nelson attended a leaders camp out at Pioneer Trails where they took first place in an event
with the Tomahawk Patrol. An appreciation and recognition dinner was held th's month above the North Webster bank which honored all staff members in the county. Jim Wright of Syracuse received the scouters key. Local boys also went to the Fort Wayne Lincoln Pilgrimage on Ash Wednesday, receiving patches for their efforts to honor Abraham Lincoln. Backing vehicle hits parked car Damage was estimated at SSO to a 1968 Chrysler, operated by Kathryn E. Copeland of Goshen on Tuesday afternoon of last week as she backed her vehicle
on Washington street in Syracuse and struck a parked car. The parked car, a 1973 Ford, was owned by Elizabeth Rookstool of Syracuse and received $l5O in damage. Syracuse police investigated. Kittens hold Valentine party By LORA PENN The Kitten Blue Birds held a Valentine party February 14th at the scout cabin in Syracuse. We finished our Valentine pin. And then we got our refreshments. Refreshments were served by Amy Hochstetler and Lori VanDiepenbos. Then we played some games. And then we sang the Blue Bird song. Then we went home.
Kiwanis club to sponsor four at Career camp
Chris Koher, of the Lakeland Kiwanis club has announced that the local club will sponsor four boys to the 1975 Indiana State Police Career camp. • The purpose of the camp is to encourage outstanding high school students to pursue careers in criminal justice and to acquaint them with the duties and responsibilities in this area of government service. The camp, in it’s sixth year, is held at the Hoosier 4-H Leadership Center near Purdue university. A full program schedule includes classroom studies, visiting law enforcement agents, recreation, field trips and
firearms training. Boys are scheduled to attend from July 27 through August 1. For additional information and application forms, contact Chris Koher of Syracuse or the guidance department of Wawasee high school.
