Finish season and Lakeland seventh grade tournament
North Webster's seventh grade basketball team, coached by Bob Harding, finished its season last week by compiling a fine 9-5 record. Highlight of the season came with victories over Pierceton arid an improved Syracuse team to win the championship of the Lakeland seventh grade tournament With defense and passing being stressed, no one individual emerged as team star Bart Bowser and Allen Coy led the team in scoring by averaging 7.3 and 7.1 points, respectively. Todd Harris was the rebound leader and field goal percentage leader, shooting 478. Coy led in free throw percentage with .524 Davie Strombeck. although missing

JV blasts Northfield By SANDY GERENCSER The Warrior junior varsity basketball team, which was coached by Jerry Lambert, finished its season with a fine record of 12-8 after creaming the Northfield Norsemen 55-36 last Friday before a home crowd. After a low scoring first quarter, Wawasee managed to eke out of a 9-7 edge. However, in the second period the tribe really shone as it zipped off to a 25-13 halftime score. The Warriors continued their 12 point lead in the third period. 3725. They stretched the Northfield deficit to 19 in the final quarter to win 55-36. High point man for Wawasee was Craig Sorensen with 14 points. Steve Troup and Ken Patton followed with eight apiece while Keith Cripe netted six. J. D. Carl and Doug Pollock scored five and four points respectively. Adding two points each were Rick Bauman. Steve Kroh. Mark Hoover. Bryan Smith and Kent Trobaugh.
One injured in accident in Goshen Main street and Westwood road in Goshen was the scene of a twocar accident Thursday at 6:50 am. Miriam L. Bontreger, 48, 1008 Mervin Ave., Goshen, was not hospitalized but sustained a left shoulder injury when she slopped on Westwood road and then proceeded into the path of a 1972 Dodge. The Dodge was driven by Jaqueline J. Collins. 36. Milford She was not injured. Reportedly a car turning from Main street onto West wood road blocked the view from the Bontreger vehicle. Goshen city patrolman Ross Albert investigated. Damage was listed at S9OO to both cars. Master mason degree conferred On Monday evening, 36 members and guests of Syracuse Lodge No. 454 F&AM conferred the master mason degree on one candidate. David averaged 13.5 points per game while scoring more than 18 points in seven of 15 games. David was bested only in free throw percentage by teammate Rick Cripe.’

His 18-point game led the Yellowjackets to a victory over Milford in the last game of the year. At least seven out of ten patients admitted to a mental • hospital can leave partially or totally recovered with prompt and proper treatment. About 75 per cent of those admitted for the first time leave the hospital within the first year.
Swimmers drop to Jackson By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee girls’ swim team, which is under the coaching of Cindy Peterson, was tipped by South Bend Jackson last Monday. 116-96. Three new school records were set in spite of the loss. Deb Doty broke the old record in the 400 freestyle by 20 seconds as she took first with 5:09.7. Lisa Bosstick set the 50 free record as she took first with .28.85. Marlys Staley was second in the individual medley but still set a school record as she clocked 2:47.8. Marlys also took first in the 50 fly with a time of :34.9. Kathy Carlin was first in diving as she accumulated 144.2 points. Beth Reiff was third in the event. Dyanne Tracy had 1:32.8 to win the 100 breaststroke, and Kay Rowe placed second. In the 50 breaststroke Dyanne Tracy was second and Kathy Bagnall was fourth. Drenna Grisamer placed second in the 100 backstroke while Beth Reiff was third. In the 50 back Deb Doty was second and Drenna Grisamer was third. Mary Lowe finished third in both the 50 and 100 fly. Esti Keen and Tammy Bosstick were 2-4 in the 200 freestyle. In the 100 free Lisa Bosstick was third, and Esti Keen placed third in the 400 free. Taking fourth were Kay Rowe in the 200 individual medley and Linda Franke in the 50 free. Placing second in the 200 medley relay was the team of Drenna Grisamer. Dyanne Tracy, Mary Lowe and Linda Franke. Wawasee was second and third in the 400 freestyle relay. Finishing second were Esti Keen. Marlys Staley. Tammy Bosstick and Deb Doty while Lisa Bosstick, Kathy Carlin, Sharon Rapp and Kay Rowe came in third. Wawasee will be in a four-way meet on Saturday, and on Monday it will host Penn at 6 p.m. Vehicles collide in county seat A city taxi driven by Kenneth Swain, 26. Syracuse, and an auto driven by Ruth Parry, 53, Winona Lake, collided Friday afternoon at the corner of South Buffalo and W'est Market streets in W’arsaw. City officers listed damage at SIOO to the taxi and $75 to the Parry car. There were no injuries. Coming together is a beginning. keeping together is progress, working together is success.

WEAVER EARNS MEDAL — Outstanding duty performance at Edwards AFB. Calif., has earned the meritorious service medal for captain David D. Weaver, son of Mr. and Mrs. DeLoss 1. Weaver of r 1 Syracuse. Captain Weaver was cited for his professional skill, knowledge and leadership as chief of the career control section, quality control section and personal affiars section of the 6510th air base group. The captain was honored at Sunnyvale Air Force station. Calif., where he now serves as chief of personnel and administration for the 6594th air base squadron, a unit of the air force systems command. A 1959 graduate of Syracuse high school, he received a BS degree in 1964 from Manchester college. North Manchester and was commissioned the same year through officer training school. Lackland .AFB. Tex. He earned his MBA degree in 1970 at the University of Oklahoma. His wife. Elizabeth, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Fred Gregory of r 5 LaPorte. Presenting the service medal is colonel John W. Browning, commander of detachment 1 of the air force satellite control facility.

Both had 30.40 points, Rhonda Byrd took fourth in floor exercise with a total of 7.75 points. Other Wawasee girls participating in the meet were Peg Gay, Peg Beer and Barb Yoder. The Warriorettes will meet North Wood at home tomorrow (Thursday) at 6 p.m.
