Syracuse fine arts festival on Thursday
“My Indiana” is the theme for the 1975 Syracuse elementary fine arts festival which will be held Thursday evening, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the boys’ gym. The evening’s music and art will allow students of grades kindergarten through five to portray outstanding features of Indiana and Syracuse, past and present. Included in Indiana's history are Indians, Johnny Appleseed, a pioneer circle dance, the Wabash Cannonball, a “Merry Oldsmobile”, the circus and early Syracuse. Contemporary Syracuse will be featured in a “Song of Syracuse”, the lyrics by the fourth grade. The elementary choir will perform songs by Indiana composers, such as Hoogy Carmichael. Scenery by the art classes will include an old mill, a wigwam, circus wagon, covered wagon, and Pickwick square. Mrs. Richard Roose, who taught art the first semester and Miss Pat Black, the present art teacher, have cooperated in planning the art work as well as the first grade music. Mrs. Richard Ditmer is in charge of the music in grades two-five, and the kindergarten teachers have planned for the kindergarten performance. Mrs. Matt O’Hare and the classroom teachers are staging and costuming the show. Robert D. Hamman is the principal. The public is invited to attend at no admission charge. Five from county on ISU honor roll TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State university has released the fall semester honor roll containing names of 1,230 students who achieved academic distinction in their first semester of the 1974-75 year. Grades are computed on a 4.0 scale with the honor roll listing students with a grade point average of 3.50 to 3.75 and the distinguished honor roll listing those attaining an average of 3.76 or above. The honor listing is prepared for students carrying 12 or more semester hour (pass-fail courses are not computed) and does not include those who were engaged in student teaching during the term.
