Men found guilty in robbing, mugging episode
Following over two days of testimony and approximately three hours of deliberation by a jury, Gerald Eugene McDonald, 36, and John Brown Christian, 25, both of rural Syracuse, were found guilty last Wednesday of armed robbery of a Syracuse area man. Jurors in county superior court proceedings recommended determinate sentences of 20 years for both men to the presiding judge. Allan A. Rasor. The men were charged with the November 29 robbery and mugging of Milo Sprunger at his Lake Wawasee residence, and
were reportedly armed with a knife and can of Mace when entering the home. In late testimony given by Rennie Zentz of Syracuse, owner of the can of spray tear gas, Zentz told of their plan (the two men, McDonald and Christian, revealed while riding around in a car) of robbing the Frog Tavern and of beer drinking during the course of the evening. Zentz, in fact, said he drove the men to Bayshore drive at Wawasee near the Sprunger home and was told to come back in 10 to 15 minutes and that the two men donned ski masks upon
leaving the auto. \ When returning Christian and McDonald came “out of nowhere” and were carrying guns. As the men entered the car, Zentz emerged, he said, and called a Nappanee man at the FTog to come get him. Testimony was given by county and state officers on the arrest of the Syracuse men and investigation at the Sprunger residence where two rifles, a shotgun, a watch, $3 in bills and some Canadian coins were taken. A search of the subjects by officers revealed the loot taken in the mugging-robbery. Deborah Strieby on dean's list Miss Deborah Lynn Strieby of Syracuse has just been named to

An elementary •education major at the Florida Panhandle college, she is a member of the Grace Bible church in Syracuse. “This young collegian is a great credit to her community,” said Dr. A. R. Unemployment claims extensions have begun Offices of the Indiana Employment Security Division began accepting unemployment insurance claims for extended benefits beginning Monday. John F. Coppes, director of the division, said that Indiana has entered a regular extended benefit period. He explained that unemployed workers who have filed a claim for unemployment insurance since February 10, 1974 and have exhausted all the benefits on that claim may be eligible for the additional payments. There is also another extended benefit period available for those who exhaust all the claims on the upcoming regular extended period, he noted.
