Several from area participate in first national cycle race

Several area residents recently participated in the first national cycle race to be held indoors at Coliseum, Fort Wayne. They are Randy Lewallen, Terry, Likens, Dave White and Dan White, North Webster and Steve Sherman, Goshen. , Cycle riders taking part in the race represented 19 states. Participants were on hand from as far away as Texas, New Work underway at UM church Russell Churchill, George « Davis and George Switzer have installed a new range hood in the kitchen at North Webster United Methodist church. It is also reported that Mr. Churchill is busy making toys for the church kindergarten.

Young adults class has party The Young Adults Sunday school class of Barbee Community church held a party on January 18 at the home of Mr and Mrs. William Jernigan, Syracuse Games were played and group singing enjoyed. Church of the Brethren has birthday supper

The annual birthday supper of North Webster Church of the Brethren was held January 19. The church social room was decorated in keeping with the birthday theme. Approximately 60 persons attended the event. Homemade icecream and cake was served. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Walker and Rev. John Weeks represented North Webster United Methodist church at “A Convocation On Small Groups.” held January 24 and 25 at Warsaw.

San Antonio mission discussed at Webster church meeting

L. R. Peters, Peru, was guest speaker at North Webster United Methodist church on January 26 at 6 p.m. He showed pictures and discussed the two weeks he spent in San Antonio, Texas, working at a Spanish-American United Methodist Mission church. Supper was served at 6 p.m. followed by the program.

Lakeland Kiwanis club observes 60th anniversary

Lakeland Kiwanis club members observed the 60th anniversary of Kiwanis International during their January 20 breakfast meeting. The invocation was presented by Father Charles Kunkel. The program was presented by Lorin Badskey, former Kiwanis International president. He discussed the aims and purposes of the organization and its growth during the past 60 years. ' Former presidents of the Lakeland club were introduced. They are: Joe Longnecker, Chris Koher, Don Arnold, Jerry Badskey and Bob Day. Ralph Haynes gave a report on

WACs may get pantsuit uniform Warsaw army representative SFC Charles Parker reports that according to Lt. Col. Evelyn P. Foote, Women’s Army Corps staff adviser for U.S. Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga., the prospects are good for a new pantsuit uniform to be designed for use by members of the Women’s Army Corps. Parker said Lt. Col. Foote made the surprise announcement when presenting the WAC of the year award to Sp 4 Ida Watson of Fort Riley, Kans., at recent ceremonies at the fort.

1 YEAR AGO, JAN. 30.1974 Syracuse town employee Fred Personette was released from Goshen hospital Sunday where he was treated for injuries sustained in a tree felling accident in Syracuse on January 15. As of this Saturday, Feb. 2, all post offices in the county including Syracuse but with exception of Silver Lake, will join in the area mail processing whereby all out-going mail from each postal area will go to the sectional center at South Bend for canceling and postmarking. The fire was blamed on a damper on an air-tight stove. A driverless truck parked near the Bert Ward home on Huntington street backed down the big hill yesterday, crossed the street and crashed into the front end of an Interstate Public Service truck near the Arthur Snavely shop. Mr. and Mrs. Hallie Holloway entertained Saturday evening for Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Seiders who will be leaving next week for Florida. Effective February 1, Fieldon Sharp is the new post office messenger in Syracuse. Clare Baumgardt, Harlan Steffen return from IU Todd Realty announced the recent return of Clare Baumgardt and Harland Steffen from Indiana university where they attended the Indiana realtor’s institute. The institute is comprised of a three year study course. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, the designation of G.R.I. (Graduate Realtors’ Institute) is bestowed. Clare and Harlan have completed their first year. Also on campus for a shorter period of time were Joe and Barbara Todd. They were attending the Indiana realtors’ update seminar. This is an annual seminar held for the graduates of the institute. Joe and Barbara received their G.R.I. designations in 1972. The management of Todd Realty believes that the real estate business is ever changing and that continuing education is necessary to enable the staff of Todd Realty to better serve the needs of the people.
