TO PRESENT PROGRAM — The Cal Haywood family, country gospel singers from Claypool, will be appearing at Barbee Community church on January 19 at 7 p.m. | The group consists of Mr. and Mrs. Cal Haywood. Rita (Haywood) Mason, Judy (Haywood) Swanson, Deborah Hagood. Betty and Johnny Miller and Robert Haywood. The family presents an evangelistic program of vocal and instrumental music and is well known throughout the area for its recorded music and soul winning activities. The public is invited to attend the program.

Stuart Walker gave the invocation to open the January 5 meeting of Lakeland Kiwanis club. Rev. John Weeks was guest speaker. He showed pictures of his recent summer trip to England. The birthday of Charles Kunkel was acknowledged It was annotnced that the week of January 19 through January 25 will be the 35th anniversary of the Kiwanis foundation and the 60th anniversary of Kiwanis International. Lakeland Kiwanis will ’be observing its 20th anniversary at that time. Members were reminded of the Firemen's Auxiliary installs officers A New officers were installed during the January 6 meeting of North Webster Firemans Auxiliary Ladies from the Pierceton Firemans Auxiliary were guests Mrs Richard Mitchell was the installing officer The new officers are: Sue White — president Mrs. Julia Galloway — vice president Mrs. Virginia Spry — treasurer Mrs Helen Warble — secretary Florence Birns — chaplain Other officers are Karen Ridjjarson. director; Mrs Spry, historian; and Mrs Margaret Payne, marshal Following an informal business session a salad bar was served. Pa. » The chapel was built after World War II in memory of four chaplains who stayed aboard ship until all other personnel had been rescued The ship sank before the four dedicated men could be taken to safety Once each year the youth of Philadelphia parade to the chapel and hold services in memory of the four brave men and others who lost their lives during service to their country. Barbee Hoosier club has dinner Barbee Hoosier club members met January 8 at Barbee Conservation club building. Mrs Ruth Butler. Mrs. Violet Lawson. Mrs. Floyd Cleaver and Mrs. Opal Esch were in charge of the meeting. A carry-in dinner was served at noon. New members welcomed to the group are Phyllis Goul. Mrs. Jane Aker is Charm N' Chatter club hostess Mrs. Jane Aker was hostess for the January 6 meeting of Charm N’ Chatter home extension club. Mrs. Eva Brunner assisted the

hostess. Mrs. Lorin Badskey read devotions. The lesson “Coping with stress” was given by Dorothy Baumle. Reports were given by: Helen Anderson, cultural arts: Mrs. Akers, garden remarks; Mrs. Brunner, citizenship; and Mrs. Badskey. health and safety. ?. Roll call response was “Have you broken your new year’s resolutions?” During the short business session the coins for friendship program was discussed. It was announced that the club has adopted a patient at a local nursing home. The February meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Jean McNabb. Mrs. Vem Hunt will assist the hostess.

WCTU meets at Brethren church Jan. 7 Anna Bowers Chapter Women’s Christian Temperance Union met January 7 at North Webster Church of the Brethren. The meeting opened with group singing of “I Love Thy Kingdom Lord.” Mrs. Betty Barrett was in charge of the business session. Devotions were given by Elizabeth Baker. Her topic was “Established Justice.” She read from Psalms 2 and first Timothy 1:8 and 9. Mrs. Eva Lock read the minutes of the December

meeting. Each member responded to roll call with a reading or Bible verse. The next meeting will be February 4 at North Webster Church of the Brethren. Legion Auxiliary plans children's Valentine party North Webster American Legion Auxiliary is planning a children’s Valentine party to be held February 18. Dinner will be served to the youngsters and the names of their secret mothers will be revealed. Entertainment will be provided.

Monroe Hilltoppers meet January 8 Members of Monroe Hilltoppers home extension club met January 8 at the home of Mrs. Tom Hicks. Mrs. Ralph Brown gave devotions. \ The health and safety report was presented by Mrs. John Hawkins. Mrs. Chester Gerard discussed cultural arts. Roll call response was “A new song I Like.” It was announced the February meeting will feature a silent auction. Frances Faurote will be hostess at the February meeting. -NW-
