Warriors cage Lions 59-57 in NLC action
By SANDY GERENCSER Bob Heady’s Warrior basketball team defeated the Bremen Lions in a conference game last Saturday at home, 5957 The tribe’s record now stands at 5-6. The Warriors had a better scoring attack as they hit 26 of 64 shots for 40.6 per cent. The Lions were right with Wawasee though as they netted 25 of 64 for 39 per cent. The tribe again, as in most of its games, took the opening basket, bin Bremen soon gained an 8-4 advantage. The Warriors countered the attack with two shots by Dave Madrick — one on a great steal, and a bucket by Mark Smith; the two combined for 14 points in the quarter Wawasee maintained its ’lead until the end of the period, 18-15. By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee basketball team was crushed by conference rival Plymouth last Friday, 72-45. It was the Warriors’ third loss in a row and dropped the team's record to 4-6. The tribe again suffered in its shooting department as it hit 32.1 per cent of its shots. Plymouth notched 49.2 per cent. Wawasee also made several costly errors that Plymouth took great ad\<tf>tage of. The first score didn’t come until 5:20 left in the first quarter. Mark Smith gave Wawasee its only lead as he put the Warriors cn the scoreboard first. Plymouth took ova- the lead, yet the two squads ran close until the end of the period when the Pilgrims hit three shots in a row to top the tribe 14-8 at the end of the period. The Warriors pulled within two at the start of the second period. Plymouth really went to work
Hank Aaron selected 1974 ‘King of Sports’
Home run slugger Hank Aaron has been selected the 1974 “King of Sports’’, it was announced today by Chris Schenkel chairman of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. In a nationwide ballot of the association’s members, Aaron was selected over other sports greats including. Muhammad Ali the World Heavy Weight Boxing Champion who placed second and golf great Johnny Miller who placed third. The “King of Sports” Award is jointly sponsored by Kiwanis International and by the InC.S. Myers Ford wins trip> to bowl In a recent Indianapolis district sales contest C. S. Myers Ford, Milford and Syracuse accomplished 138 per cent of its sales objective and was awarded a trip to the Super Bowl at Tulane stadium in New Orleans. Ned Tarman was selected to make the trip.

The tribe pulled back within 10 at one point, 42-32, but the Pilgrims came back with another six points. Dave Madrick was lost to the Warriors as he contracted his fifth foul with 2:21 left in the quarter. W’awasee was down 46-32 at the end of the period. Although Wawasee was already down, the final quarter told the sto» y of a long evening for the tribe. Plymouth’s strong offense doubled the Warriors’ output of points as they netted 2613.
