Edward Miller Edward Eugene Miller, 55, 408 Summer Ave., Goshen, son of Walter S. and Rita (Zollinger) Miller of r 1 Milford, passed away Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at his home. Death was caused by asphyxiation. Mr. Miller was born September 11,1919 at Goshen and had been a resident of Goshen all his life. Miller was a former deputy iheriff for 15 years and a rubber company employee and was employed at Standard Plating at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Bernice Smith on February 24, 1940 and she survives. Surviving with the widow and parents are two sons, Walter E. (Skip) ’Miller, Goshen, and James Miller, Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; three Mrs. Carl (Pauline) YoderJ Goshen, Mrs. Neal (Arlene) Cory and Miss Donna Miller, both ofj?l Milford. Services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev W. Oscar Lawson officiating and interment was in Violett cemetery. Mrs. Virginia Armentrout ’ Mrs. Virginia Cole Armentrout, 60. Marion, mother of Mrs. Glen (Sandra) Elder of Milford, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31. at the Marion hospital Death came at 9:50 p.m. after an illness of two years Death was caused by cancer Mrs Armentrout was bom at Pierceton on December 6,1914 to George and Maude Kilgere She was a retired factory worker and had been residing in Marion for the past year after moving there from Pierceton Mrs Armentrout was a member of the Senior Citizens club, American Legion Auxiliary and the Presbyterian church at Pierceton. Mrs. Mary Giant Mrs. Mary I. (Mollie) Giant. 96, Leesburg, passed away Friday,, Jan. 3, at the Alfran nursing home in Warsaw. Death came at 9:55 a.m. Mrs. Giant was born on November 28, 1878 to George W. and Lauretta (Webster) Himes at Leesburg. She was united in marriage on February 3, 1898 to Odlin E. Giant at Leesburg and \he preceded her in death on May »M 960 She was a member of the Leesburg United Methodist church Survivors include one son, Chester H Giant, Sr., Warsaw; eight grandchildren; 25 greatgrandchildren. eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister. Mrs. Arthur (Addie) Whiteleather, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by two sons. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Douglas A. Davies officiating. Interment was in Leesburg cemetery. Roy E. Cripe Services were held today (Wednesday) for Roy E. Cripe. 83, Nappanee and father of Robert Cripe of North Webster. Death came early Sunday at Elkhart hospital where he had been a patient for nine days Mr Crjpe was bom near New Paris on October 7, 1891. His marriage to the former Rosa Welty took place September 3, 1913 and she siffvives He was retired in 1956 from the Baltimore and Ohio railroad He was a member of the First Brethren church Also surviving are two daughters. Mrs Dorothy Losee and Mrs. Andrew (Flossie) Losee, both of Nappanee; two other sons, Phillip and Douglas, both of Nappanee; nine grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and four sisters. father of Mrs. Gloria Ruth Davis of North Webster. Death came Wednesday following an extended illness. Bom June 28, 1896 at Warsaw, he was a son of Everett D. and Mary A. (Jones) Cox and resided in the Warsaw community all of his life. His marriage to the former Hazel Grace Grimes took place on March 11, 1918 and she survives. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the John C. Peterson American Legion post of Warsaw. Also surviving are two sons. Robert Cox of Atwood and Don Cox, Clearwater. Fla.; three other daughters. Mrs. Mary Roush, Mrs. Norma Bradbury and Mrs. Vera Jean Wright, all of Warsaw; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister. Three brothers and four grandchildren preceded him in death. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery. Lawrence Miller Services for Lawrence (Lorney) Miller, 66. 1056 East Market St . Nappanee, were conducted at 10 ajn. Monday. Mr. Miller passed away at 7 a m Friday. Jan. 3. Death was unexpected and was caused by a heart attack. Mr. Miller was born July 8,1908 to Adam and Gertrude (Slough) Miller at Bourbon. He was united in marriage to Elinor Haab on October 1,1936 and she survives. He was a part-time driver for Holiday Rambler at Nappanee and had formerly worked for 20 years as a salesman for Pletcher Furniture. He was also a member of the Goshen Elks club. Surviving with the widow, a former Milford ’resident, is one daughter, Mrs. Glen (Margo) Unzicker. Elkhart Rev. David Widmoyer officiated for the services at a Nappanee funeral home with interment in the Milford cemetery Ora E. Sylvester Services were held Tuesday for Ora E. Sylvester, 80. North Webster with interment in North Webster cemetery. Death came Saturday evening in Whitley county hospital following a lengthy illness. A painting contractor, he was bom in Hamilton county on May 22. 1894. and lived in the North Webster community for the past 18-years moving from South Whitley His marriage to the former Crystal Songer took place May 13, 1916 and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ray (Virginia) Penn of North Webster, Mrs. Lee (Rosie)
Trimmer, Larwill, and Mrs. Darrell (Geneva) Leap of Knapp Lake; three sons. Gene of Pompano Beach, Fla., Perry, Anderson, and Estle of Pierceton; 11 grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. Thomas E. Nine Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Harris-Troxel funeral home at North Webster for Thomas E. Nine, 93, of North Webster. Death came at 10 p.m. Tuesday at the home of a son in Fort Wayne where he had been visiting. A son of George and Nancy (Strieby) Nine, he was bom in Missouri on May 10. 1881 and resided in the North Webster community most of his life. A farmer, he married the former Suffie Kiser on July 25, 1903 and she preceded him in death in 1962. He was a member of the North Webster United Methodist church and Kosciusko county farm bureau. Survivors include two sons, Ray of North Webster and George, Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; 16 great-grand-children; and one brother, Calvin Nine of Elkhart. Two sons preceded him in death. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9. Rev. John W’eeks will officiate for the Friday service and interment will be in North Webster cemetery. Maternal greatgrandmother is-Mrs. Iris Smith of Lincoln. Krista Sue Ann has two brothers, Scott, at home, and James of r 1 Milford. FIFER son Mr. and Mrs. Larry C. Fifer of Warsaw are the parents of a son bom Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw. The young man was bom at 3:16 a m. aijd tipped the scales at six pounds. 124 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Maroel, Leesburg, and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fifer. Jr., Warsaw. RUSSELL, Jason Andrew Mr. and Mrs. George Russell are the parents of a son bom January 2 in Defiance. Ohio. The newborn, Jason Andrew, weighed seven pounds. 114 ounces at birth. Walter Ritter of Syracuse remains a patient in the Goshen hospital where he underwent emergency surgery on Sunday. Jan. 5, for an ulcer. His room number is 226 and he will be allowed visitors starting Thursday. Jan. 9. Michael Bitner of Syracuse entered Goshen hospital over the week end to undergo observation. BIG WINNER — When Pickwick theatre assistant manager Georgia Buster called the William J. Wesner home on Pickwick road, Syracuse, to inform them that their seven-year-old daughter. Jan, was the lucky winner of a giant Christmas stocking it was little Jan who answered the telephone. She went running to her mother exclaiming, ••Mommy, Mommy, it’s the lady from the picture show — I won the stocking!” And so it was. Jan had signed up for the stocking which is given annually by the showhouse, duringthe merchant’s free show at the theatre on December 14, having been admitted on a ticket courtesy of Kathy’s Beauty Bazaar at Syracuse.
