The Warriors were unable to regain a lead in the remainder of the game. They did come back and tie the game at 6-6. but then the Squires netted four unanswered baskets. Manchester led by as many as nine points, but a quick Warrior basket at the first quarter buzzer made the score 17-10. The start of the second quarter found the Squires jumping to an U-point lead. The Warriors fought back to within seven, but .Manchester put them down by 13 before the half, 30-17, Three foul shots cut the lead to 10. and a basket by Del Acton made it eight at the half, 30-22. Manchester got the opening two baskets of the third period and Wawasee came back with a pair of its own. The Squires got a 10-point jump on the Warriors. Then Dei Acton scored two points, rebounded a stray Squire shot, and passed to Mark Smith, who put Wawasee within Six But, the teams both notched 12 points by the end of the quarter, and Manchester again led by eight at its close. 42-34. Wawasee stayed within four, but Manchester's Scott Heath netted two quick buckets at the end of the game to give the Squires a 5749 victory. Mark Smith was the top scorer for the game as he tallied 18 points. He had a rough first half as he contracted three fouls and scored but four points; however. , he came through on some kejr plays in the second half. Contributing 13 points to the Warriors was Dave Madrick. Del Acton and Dave Wollman each had six. Del Acton was a real sparkplug in the green machine as he got the team moving on many occasions; he led in the rebounding department with 11. Manchester was led by Dan Hoffman and Tim Olinger as they notched 12 points apiece. Scott Heath had 11. The Warriors will journey to Plymouth this Friday and will host Bremen on Saturday. Wawasee Prep joins Triton sectional play
The Lakers from Wawasee Prep will join other area schools in the sectional tournament this year. Again the sectional has been moved back to Triton high school's gym in Bourbon in what seems to have become an alternating schedule with Warsaw. The tournament is set for February 24-March 1. Wawasee Prep moved this year from an associate membership in the Indiana High School Athletic Association to a full membership. Other teams in the sectional will be Wawasee. Warsaw, Triton. Tippecanoe Valley and Rochester Tippecanoe Valley is the result of the consolidation of Mentone and Akron into one
Warrior swimmers second in Lewis Cass invitational
By SANDY GERENCSER Pamela Juday’s boys' swim team placed second to host Lewis Cass in the invitational on December 31. Lewis Cass accumulated 246 points while Wawasee totaled 235. Scores of the remaining participants were Shelbyville 230. Bellmont 177 and South Newton 157. Two Warriors set new varsity records as they took first in their events. Denny Spearman clocked :54.088 in the 100 freestyle. Clem Lisor swam the 200 freestyle in 2:00.991. Denny Spearman also took first in the 50 freestyle with .24.164. Clem Lisor was also a double winner as he won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.917. Brian Simmons placed first Junior varsity clouts Squires By SANDY GERENCSER Jerry Lambert’s junior varsity basketball team beat Manchester last Friday, 53-46, in a home game. The Warriors battled through a fairly close game until the final period, when they came through for the win. The tribe led by five in the first period, but the Squires came back and tied the game; Wawasee led at the quarter’s end, 15-11. After a tight second period the Warriors led at the half, 26-24. The third quarter showed the even performance of the two teams as it ended in a tie, 36-36. The Warriors took a substantial lead of nine in the fourth stanza as Steve Troup, Steve Kroh and Doug Pollock connected on some key baskets. The margin was cut to seven as the game ended 53-46. High scorer for Wawasee was Steve Troup with 14 points. Doug Pollock netted 11. Keith Cripe and Steve Kroh each notched eight; Norm Vanlaningham had six. Scoring two points apiece were Rick Bauman, Mike Steffen and Craig Sorensen. LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Beck of Bonar Lake entertained on Christmas eve for their son, Charles Beck, and wife Elizabeth of Lake Wawasee, and son Wendell and wife and children Wendy, Cindy. Both the A and B teams from Wawasee defeated the Bremen girls basketball teams in games played at Wawasee Monday night. The A team defeated Bremen 69-31 The B team defeated Bremen 31-24. Plymouth will join Argos, Glenn, LaVille, North Liberty and South Bend Jackson Regional play will be held on March 8 with winners from Columbia City, Elkhart, LaVille and Triton playing in the Elkhart Central regional. It would be possible, therefore, for four Northern Lakes Conference teams to meet in regional play. The winner of the Elkhart regional will then advance to the Fort Wayne semi-state which will be played in the Memorial coliseum. Other regional winners advancing will be from Anderson. Fort Wayne and Marion.
