County awards program closes 1974's 4-H year
The curtain came down on the 1974 4-H program as 165 youths received awards for their achievement in the respective project areas. The Elkhart county 4-H awards program and the 1974 corn and soybean show was held January 2 at the extension office. Certificates of recognition were awarded by the agricultural committee of the Elkhart county Cham ter of Commerce Four adults were given alumni awards for their service to the county’s youth. Mildred Christofeno. Helen Yoder, Henry Detwiler and Pete Rink received 4-H’s highest adult service award. Cora King Wayne Rummel, an 18-year-oid graduate of North Wood high school and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rummel, was crowned the 4-H Corn King for the year of 1975. The award was presented . by Frank Gardner, local business man. Other champion exhibitors in the corn show were Todd Hahn, Greg Kline, Ed Cable and Wayne Merry Maidens hold Christmas party Dec. 21 By BETH BURKE The Milford Junior' Merry Maidens held their Christmas party December 21 at the fire station from 4 to 8:30 p.m. First the girls went caroling around the block. Back at the fine station they played a game. Later they went caroling at the nursing home. Later they were served a hearty meal of sloppy joes, crange juice, ginger snaps and candy canes. They had a gift exchange. A starter school was given by Cindy Rapp, Rick Rapp, Lynnette Miller and Lori Kleinknight prior to the close of the meeting No injuries in two car crash Vehicles operated by Sarah S. Richcreek, 33, r 1 Leesburg, and George E. VanCuren. r 6 Warsaw, collided Monday, Dec. 30. The collision occurred on the Armstrong road at the intersection of CR 200E Damage was listed at S3OO to the Richcreek auto and s3ooto the VanCuren auto by state trooper . The Indiana Key club award went to Edwin Cable, Jenny Warner, Mark Hochstetler, Becky Kline and Penny Wagner. Leadership awards went to Edwin Cable, Wayne Rummel, Lynn Pratt and Carol Hess. Penny Wagner and Duane Cook won the citizenship awards. Winning in the over-all achievement category were Mark.
