The plant in Milford is one of the first of its type in the unmediate area. The two blowers are located in a 11 by 19 block building, and serve to activate the 14 aerators, according to Mr Brudney. To License John Martin The town board hopes to license the town’s street and water commissioner, John Martin, to maintain the facility. In the meantime, the town will employ a state licensed sewer plant operator (in Class I), designed to assist small towns with new facilities like Milford’s who do not have accredited operators. Eventually, Mr. Martin will make daily tests and file them with the Indiana State Board of Health. His daily tests will be for 1.) chlorine content after sewage goes through the chlorinator, 2.) for BOD (bio-chemical oxygen demand) and, 3.) for suspension solids. The entire plant has met the rigid standards of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency before the EPA,,would authorize release of any portion of the 75 per cent of its federal funding. Dr Miller said as of this date 75 per cent of the federal funding has been received. When the system has been approved by the EP A, the town will be responsible only to the State Board of Health for its regular reporting. All inspections are made according to the owners’ and operators’ manual. Dr. Miller stated. What It Cost Everyone is interested in cost, and it should be noted that the new sewer system for the town of Milford cost $303,000. Bids were let March 21,1973 to the firms of W. G. Bruchey Construction Co., Fort Wayne and Knapp and Yates, Rochester. The new sewer system represents one of the threepronged thrust the town is making as funds are available. Plans have been drawn up and approved for an extension of the town’s present sewer lines to include the entire town of Milford, and available funds are being sought to get this program underway It would also divide the sewer line§ from the surface water lines. 1 The third prong represents an improvement and extension of the town’s water system, to include enlarging and extending water lines to. outlying areas of the community. An overhead water tank is included in this program.
