October 31 will be SWAP day

Thursday; Oct. 31, is SWAP day once again at Wawasee high school The students will be excused from classes if they can find an adult to take their places This program enables people from the community to participate in the day — to — day activities of a high school student. Any adult wishing to participate tn the SWAP day activities may contact either a Wawasee student or the high school office. The annual Syracuse elementary and junior high Halloween Carnival will be held on Wednesday. Oct 23. from 5:30 to 8:30 pm in the Syracuse junior high gymnasium This year there will be a special feature for all ages, a puppet show. NEWS IT I s About 4-H By KEITH A. CARRINGTON Extension Agent. Youth To promote 4-H and tell others what 4-H is all about is what our 4-H week displays are all about. Nine 4-H clubs in Kosciusko county told others their version of 4-H through displays in store windows, schools, bank lobbies, etc. North Webster 4-H clubs decorated the hardware, bank, drug store, and laundry plus the North Webster school. Chain-O-Lakes 4-H club did most of the town decorating while Shamrocks II and Room 4-U 4-H clubs set up the school display. This North Webster effort placed first in competition around the county and will receive a traveling trophy and cash award. Second place window display was by Milford Junior Merry Maidens 4-H club in the variety store in Milford, and the Lucky Lassies 4-H club was third with their exhibit in a drug store window in Warsaw. Other clubs were Husky Hoosiers 4-H club with posters, plus American Girls 4-H club with exhibits on safety and 4-H projects in Atwood. The Silver Lake Tatapocheon 4-H club displayed 4-H‘ers projects in a window in town. The Mentone Merry 4-H’ers spread the word of 4-H through project and educational exhibits in the bank, a furniture store, beauty shop, electric shop and hardware in Mentone.

MEM MOST APPROPRIATE TO THEME — The Future Farmers of America won the award for the float most appropriate to the theme with their float which showed Wawasee as a ‘ growing green machine." The homecoming theme this year was "A Legend Grows.” Two Future Farmers were on the float during the fiarade.

IK THE HorX/EC BEST ORGANIZATION — The DECA club won the best organization award as they "Rocked the Rockies" aiound the parade route.
