The Packers bested the Cowboys in Pee Wee football action at Syracuse this past week in a high scoring offensive battle 25-18. Greg Trombow put the Cowboys on top. 6-0, m the first period of play via a 62-yard run. Mike Wilson intercepted a Chris Beetley screen pass, and returned it 10 yards to tie the score Jeff Glon put the Cowboys back on top with a 47-yard sweep around right end. Brian Brannock and Wilson scored for the Packers to give an 18-12 lead Ron Cripe ran the extra point

Brian Parker filled in as quarterback for Mark Harold and led the Redskins to a 20-12 victory over the Vikings. Parker scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and passed to Kim Zurcher for the winning TD in the fourth. Zurcher scored his other touchdown on a 64-yard point return. The Vikings scored on a Steve Williams to Gregg Flynn pass and Brian Walls capped the scoring with a 42-yard romp from scrimmage. The junior varsity lost a hard fought first game 15-13. Bea Carvajal had a teriffic save right at the end of the game, but the team just couldn't quite get back on top. The squad went ahead and beat Warsaw in the next two games 156 and 15-6 The girls took a very’ confmanding 9-0 lead in the second game * The varsity won a very hard fought match against Warsaw. In the first game Warsaw jumped to a 12-6 lead; Wawasee rallied but fell 15-10. The Warriorettes overcame a 7-7 tie to win the - 5The final game was a real bam burner. Wawasee led most of the way, but a spirited Warsaw team tied the game at 13-13 and 14-14 All girls did a fine job against tough rival Warsaw. Barb Brouwer did an especially fine job on the front line and was an invaluable spiker.

Syracuse Jackets finish undefeated

The Syracuse Yellow Jacket junior high football team closed out an undefeated football season Tuesday with a 26-8 victory over Wakarusa This was the Jacket's sixth win this year and the eighteenth win in a row, extending back over the last four seasons. Coaches Tom Jones and LarryPletcher watched ace running back Dan Andrews break loose for 137-yards and three touchdowns on only 18 carries. Andrews also kicked two extra points. Andrews started the Jacket scoring by intercepting a pitchout in the first quarter and running tt back 25-yards for the score. In the second quarter, Andrews ran 75-yards bn a pitchout for a 13 to nothing,* Syracuse lead. Wakarusa then scored to make

the halftime scire 13-8. Stopped Cold In the second half, Wakarusa was stopped cold as Dave Jones. Dave Johnson and Jim Becker intercepted passes to give Syracuse the ball. Rich Cripe ran three yards for one touchdown and Andrews added the final touchdown on a 13-yard run. Ray Gerber. Mike Yoder and Mark Maggart led the Syracuse defense as Wakarusa made little yardage on the ground. Gerber also ran for 30yards and Dave Stoffel caught two passes for 51yards. This was the last junior high game for the 21 Syracuse eighth graders who have never lost a game while playing in junior high.
