Warriors massacre host Bremen Lions 41-14

By SANDY GERENCSER The Warrior gadders creamed the Bremen Lions last Friday in Northern Lakes Conference action, <l-14. The win makes coach Hal Traviolia's Warrios 2-1 in the conference and 4-1 for the season Wawasee scored on its first four possessions of the ball. The Warriors did their irreversible damage in the first period as they rolled up three touchdowns within about 84 minutes. The tribe accumulated 294 yards in the rushing department while Bremen had a total of 118. The Wawasee defense was aggressive and did a fine job containing the Lions. Rick Dahlstrom ran up 135 yards in the first half to go with this three touchdowns — one on a 57-yard scamper The senior running back had a total of 156 yards for the evening Senior Bryan Lemberg scored one TD and compiled 42 yards rushing with sophomore Rick Bauman churning up 41. Al Kitson contributed 15 yards. Senior quarterback Mark Smith broke through for 40 yards rushing He completed seven of 11 passes for 83 yards. WHS varsity tennis drops two; B-team is victorious

By SANDY GERENCSER Don Scholer’s tennis squad fell to Columbia City last Monday. Sept. 23. in a meet on the Warrior courts. 4-3 The team lost to Concord the next day tn another home meet. 5-2. Individual results for the Columbia City meet were as follows Rob Zurcher fell 10-6 Vince Rhodes and Mark Goshert lost 10-5 and 104 respectively Paul Schrumpf beat his foe 10-3. Marc Fry won 104 Rhodes and Goshert lost their doubles match 10-4, but Zurcher and J. D Carl were victorious. IO 7. All deer broadhead round enjoyed by Hoss Hills club

The Hoss Hills Bowmen, Inc., recently held an all deer broadhead round. The girls’ teamwork paid off as they overcame an 11-6 deficit to win 15-11. While all the girls did a great job. special recognition goes to Tammy Schumm. Kelli White, Phyllis Horvath, Meg Schopf. Roxanne Auer and Edith Kaufman. The junior varsity volleyball team defeated Bethany Christian in two straight game* by scores of 15-11 and 15-9. The JV possesses good potential and talent, and it keeps the varsity alert. Tlie girls are starting to realize the importance of “bump and set’’ along with teamwork. Local competiton first step to national honors

Local youngsters, between the ages of 8 and 13, will be competing on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m. for one of 18 trophies in the first level of Punt, Pass and Kick competition. PP&K is an annual event, co-sponsored by the National Football League and the Ford Dealers of America. First, second and third place winners of local competition in each of the six age groups will receive a trophy. Additional trophies will be awarded to the first place winner in the zone, district, area, divisional and national finals. Area, division and national matches will be held in NFL team stadiums immediately preceding actual NFL games or during their halftime programs. Youngsters participating at these levels have a chance to meet some of the NFL players. PP&K finals will be held at the National Football Conference championship game on December 29. Finalists will

appear on national television and the winners in each age group will receive their trophies from Pete Rozelle, Commissioner of the National Football League. Also, the names of the top winner in each age group will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame at Canton, Ohio. Any boy or girl (8-13) accompanied by a parent or guardian may register at C. S. Myers Ford, Milford or Syracuse, where complete details and a free PP&K tips book are available.

Homecoming October 11 Wawasee high school football fans are reminded the school’s homecoming will be held on Friday, Oct. 11. The parade will be held at 7 p.m. with the kick-off being set for 8 p.m.
