Ship 28 at Syracuse with chaperones. Dr Jack Clark. Larry Pletcher and Mr. and Mrs Steve Bartow, returned home safely from a week end of cave exploring at Camelsburg. Mans tales can be told including formations in a fox hole, exploring of three sink holes, mudslides, and the Bacon Rind find. Ruth (Mrs. Ron) Easley of Curls at Syracuse has returned from a three-day scientific seminary for hairdressers and Barber-stylists. held at Milwaukee. Wis. Lectures and demonstrations were given on many areas regarding hair including new processes for radial, blunt, and geometric hair cutting, plus photomicrophy for hair analysis. .Skylark Realty at the north edge of town has a nice big white sign for the business and is quite attracting as one
rounds the curve into town. Pledges in the August Cystic Fibrosis swim-a-thon at Syracuse are now in totaling 83.200. slightly over 12.000 short of the amount pledged according to local organizer of the event Mrs. Matt (Sharyn* O’Hare. Anyone not receiving a statement to date or perhaps losing one. should contact Mrs. O'Hare immediately so all pledges can be collected. Another change of ownership at Syracuse is the Syracuse cleaners from Rollin (Baldy) Mills to Warren and Pat Benson of Syracuse. Warren has 15 years experience in dry cleaning and is quite good at carpet cleaning, too. We wish the couple well. Another new business opened wer a week ago in the new Pickwick Place, and held grand -opening last week end. that of Das Keller in the large basement area beneath the Gazebo entrance on the corner. Many took advantage of the grand opening for a looksee and a pizza or two featured on the menu. .Arranged with highback booths around the side, and wooden tables and chairs around the piano area, the atmosphere is delightful Sheila (Mrs. Berghorn) was
quick many times to remind persons to stop in the bar area to see the lightning, rain and hear the thunder. It is clever. Our story a week ago concerning the closing of Syracuse eating establishment brought a response from Ann and Harold Gallahan. owners of the B & K Root Beer in Wawasee Village, to the effect that they are opening on Mondays, and willing and able to handle additional business. .And now. with the ciosingof the uptown Syracuse Restaurant, eating establishments are becoming more acute. The Syracuse Restaurant, a favorite watering hole for coffee drinkers and anyone with an idle idea on their mind they would like to share with others, will be missed It's a fond hope that it will be re-opened by Cherrie Caldwell, who has done an admirable job there, or by someone else. Word comes to our desk that Ron Silveus and "Short” McCormick are among the area Chevrolet dealers who will be going to Spain in November on a company-sponsored trip. Among cities they will visit are Madrid. Toledo. Nice, France and Monte Carlo. Charlotte Kell is to be congratulated on the recovery she has wrought at her Wawasee Airport. The place was "bombed out" in the devastating April 3 tornado, but one would never know it now< Sleek new metal hangers are up. and. nothing to do with the storm, the other half of the east end of the runway is being filled and graded. Wally Huffer. the Abe Lincoln look-alike with his Lincolnesque beard and sometimes stovepipe hat. tells this one about his wife Phyllis: It seems the two were on a western trip and visited a night spot in San Diego. A hypnotist had Phyllis up front, hypnotised her and told her she was Sophia Tucker, the late celebrated night club singer. Phyllis did a vocal number, a la Sophia Tucker, then signed
autographs Later she recalled nothing of the incident, her husband tells friends. Area contractors are looking over plans for the new Harris funeral home mortuary, to be located on the southeast corner of roads 13 and 8. south of Syracuse several miles. The new funeral home will accommodate both Syracuse and North Webster where the firm now has home-type funeral homes Rough cost estimate: 8300.000. Robert L. Lieberenz of Elkhart is the architect. Approximately 65 Syracuse Rubber Products’ office and supervision personnel and guests left Syracuse Saturday afternoon — destination White Sox park in Chicago for the White SoxOakland A*s baseball game. The group stopped in Hammond for dinner and arrived in Chicago for the 8 o'clock game just as a cold rain had ended. As temperatures began lowering to a record low of 34 degrees in the ‘windy city’, many couldn’t really believe they were at a baseball game —-football game would have beers more realistic. And to add to the cold temperatures. vandals shattered some of the buses' windows and the ride home was also a little cool! Despite the drop in temperature. the group had a really great time and we’re told that kind-hearted Joe Martin even signed his autograph on some of the programs so kids at home wouldn't be disappointed that mom or dad were too cold to go to the dugouts for any of the players' autographs. Leila Connolly of LaPetite Shoppe and Sherry Keim of the Little People Shoppe put on a style show last Wednesday at Maxwelton during the luncheon hour. Many lovely styles were shown and needless to say. the adorable Keim youngsters modeled for mother and nearly stole the show. The first fall frost was felt here Sunday night and many were met Monday morning with scraping of ice from vehicle windows. LAKELAND LOCALS Mr. and Mrs. William Burgett of Milford and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Clark of Plymouth spent a 10-day camping trip at Boonesboro. Ky.. returning last Sunday.
