Ash took Lavon along <she was a 1945 graduate of South Side, but ironically met at Lake Wawaseel, and Don took Suzie along <she's a Muncie grad, year unknown) Both men reported having a lime of their lives, dancing to what they called “old time music.” Another observation of each: The stunners of 1944 turned out to be duds for the most part, and a couple late bloomers inspired moments of rapture for others Lake Wawasee resident Marie Schrader, the object of a few notes in this a week ago. called to tell us she had some “repercussions" since the article appeared, adding quickly, “but they were all good." North Webster barber George Sliger, never an advocate of the Medieval theme that has put his small community on the map. went on vacation recently, and his friendly pundits put a handmade "Ye Olde" sign above his “Barber Shop" sign When George returned, the sign quickly came down. Lions hear 'duck story' of Maple Leaf Milford Lions Monday night heard "the duck story" as presented by two executives of Maple Leaf Farms, Inc., a leading duck producer located in the New Salem community. C. J. ("Brick") Meinert. technical director, and Robert Spearman, plant superintendent, brought Lions the story of how ducklings are raised by area farmers and traced the birds through the processing lines to a world market. Mr. Meinert. who said he was with the company since its inception in 1957, said the company has 150 employees with an annual payroll of $750,000. The plant processes 60,000 ducks a week, and that ducks make up seven per cent of the county's farm income. 95 per cent of that income comes from outside Indiana. He spoke of the physical plant, adding that the company is ahead of Environmental Protection Authority standards, and at the present time meet state and federal requirements until the year 1980. C Mr. Spearman said the firm 'kills seven-week-old birds at the rate of up to 16.000 in an eighthour day, or 234 pounds per minute, or 36 birds per minute. He said in 1974 the firm would process two and a half million ducklings for a world market. They are shipped to all 48 continental states. Hawaii and Canada. He said duckling feet are sent to Hong Kong where they enter an oriental market where they are stuffed and served as an hors d' oeuvre He called Maple Leaf “an asset to this area,” adding that every part of the duckling is used except the quack — and that after hearing Lions sing, he could possibly find a use for the quack! In other business president Max Beer recognized the passing of townsman Royce Fuller, a former Lions club president and long time club member. Lion Bill Little called attention to the fact that District Governor Paul Stillwell of New Paris would visit the club at its October 7 meeting. Guests at the Monday night meeting were: Jack Shipley, Howard Eaton. Don Rinehart. Larry Snyder and Leander Schroeder, all of Dunlap; and Richard Vinke, N.
