A card left at the library listed him as president of a publishing company at West Palm Beach. Fla., and a resident of Palm Spnngs A few light showers Friday did not dampen the spirits of sidewalk days shoppers at Syracuse and most merchants reported excellent traffic and sales. It seems to be a battle of the ages — first in the Saturday swim a-thon. then, on Sunday, in a softball game on South Shore Golf course Tired of being prodded by the yoimg men around the golf course, the "old men’* (over 30) challenged the young men to a softball game, it came off at 4 p.m. between the number 10 fairway and the 15th tee. going a full nine innings. Final score: 22-19. in favor of the "old men.”
This doesn't tell it all. however. It was 16-1 at the end of the fifth inning, in favor of the "old men.** but their strength began to nag. and the youngsters came up along side their opponents, but never gained the lead. Homers were by Jim Caskey, Frank Miller, Steve Dodds and Bill Gallaway. it got so hot. with the youngsters buying the treats after the game, that a re-match is scheduled for Sunday. Sept. 8. But now get this! Dick Thibaut (about 45) suffered a pulled muscle, passed out. and the first aid ambulance was called. Steve Dodds suffered bloody elbows and Tom Tuttle (whom we suspect of being the instigator of all this), bloody knees. If you have a job you want done, and you want it done right, call Sharyn O'Hare. Sharyn might have ambivalent thoughts about this com-
mendation. since it might bring her a flood of offers she won’t relish. Anyway, she’s the one who put together the highly successful swim-a-thon on Lake Wawasee Saturday. It netted over $5.3M for the cause of cystic fibrosis research, but as much as anything it made this area mindful of this crippling disease. Sharyn (she’s Mrs. Matt O’Hare) did an awfully lot of work putting this thing together, and the fact that 27 swimmers turned out with a minimum of SSO each in their hand for the cause, to swim against a 10-mile-per-hour headwind is proof positive of the success of her efforts. What did Sharyn get out of it all: some real satisfaction of a job well done, to be sure, and a dunking in the lake, clothes and all. when it was all over!
