Another nice compliment came to our area this week as the Robert Rothenberger family of Elcho. Wis . visited in the area and remarked with ail the lakes in Wisconsin. Indiana has much lovelier homes around the lakes -o— Confusion is what it was when a brief news article came in last week regarding a visit in the Floyd Reed home by the Lloyd Wayne Reeds of Waukegan. 111. Seems the Illinois man is a brother of Mrs Reed of Syracuse, and she is the Mrs Reed who commented she was one of a few who married an individual with

Wales Macy of Macy’s Wa'wasee Slip is proud to show friends a “rain tree" he has successfully cultured in his back yard He says. “1 don’t know what’s so unusual about this tree, but that it won’t grow tn this climate.” He brought "about 100” of them from New Harmony on the Wabash River, to Syracuse in the late 19605. and has only this one that grew So you're a horticulturist! and Design, he is talented! “Your front page last week looked like an obituary column." so said Bill Coburn to the editor. Diane Cook, employee at Thornburg drugs, came home with a paper last Wednesday evening and told her daddy, the Rev. Ross Cook, "Look at this front page, all these deaths!” And. indeed, both persons were so right. The page did look like an obit page, what with the death on motorcycle of Jay Haab at Milford, the Indianapolis man injured in a boating accident, the death of Harry L. Coy. the young Illinois woman who died of injuries on Pickwick Road, and the sudden death of 14-year-oid Theresa Barth of Milford. Another death in the Syracuse community that proved a shocker was the sudden death of conservation officer Earl Money. We hope we don’t have another such eventful week end around the area for quite a while. i Battleground - (Continued From Page 1) Udall's rapid-fire presentation was laced with good humored antidotes Udall came to Indiana from Washington, landing in Indianapolis where a press conference was held, then moved on to Lafayette before coming to Warsaw's big rally. Floyd Fithian introduced his family as “real campaign workers" then reserved most of his comments about his opponent to the price of groceries at the grocery store. He said. “Hogs sold for $63 a hundred and then dropped to $23 a hundred which resulted in a nickle savings on ham in the grocery store, while profits of the three largest grocery store chains are up 60 to 70 per cent. " Fithian failed to comment on the Watergate hearings in Washington The dinner for Floyd Fithian was arranged by Stanley Pequignot and John Hall, coordinators in Kosciusko county for the Fithian-for-congress campaign. Landgrebe Here Friday In contrast to this type of politicing, incumbent congressman Earl Landgrebe of Valparaiso appeared in the same Shrine building the previous night (Friday) and had fulsome words of praise for President Nixon, stating, “take away Watergate and the wild-eyed Democrats are dead.” In Landgrebe's ill-fated bid for the US senatorial nomination at

the June state convention, he came out full force for President Nixon. He said at that time Indianapolis Mayor Richard Lugar s criticism of the president caused him (Landgrebe) to seek the senatorial race. The small crowd (132) attending the Republican meeting was ascribed to the fact that the meeting was staged hurriedly, perhaps to take the wind out of the sails of the Democratic meeting. However, Democrats said it portends the political winds now sweeping over the nation. Congressman Landgrebe has repeatedly extended an open invitation to President Nixon to come into the second district to campaign for him in the forthcoming election. He said. "President Nixon has delivered on his promise and we have peace and prosperity in this country. I personally have found nothing in the man of an impeachable nature." He added, "When I vote no against a spending bill. I’m voting for financial stability. My palm has been greased by no one.” The election is in its early stages, with both congressional candidates sparing for an issue that will capture the imagination of the voters. It’s a good chance that the battle will be fought out on Kosciusko county ground.
