Claypool, state horseshoe pitch champion, will be present for the contest for senior citizens at the Kosciusko county fair. Thursday. Aug. 8. Trophies will be awarded to winners of men's and women's classes. The event is sponsored by the Rural Youth group. All senior citizens. 60 or over, are urged to participale. Registration will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Whitko high school band will give a concert starting at 1 p.m. Entertainment will be provided from 3-5 p.m. by an 1887 air calliope. Championship wrestling will be held at 8 p.m.. in front of the grandstand for men and women.

INDIANAPOLIS - The 1974 Indiana State Fair, August 15-25, will get a rousing send off when over 1,000 vanity and reserve high school cheerleaders from across the state converge on the fanners building at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16. Started in 1971 with 27 teams competing, the Indiana State Fair cheerleaders contest will include a record 202 teams this year. Over 600 enthusiasts will compete on 114 varsity squads, while 352 boosters will make up the 88 reserve units entered. Area teams which will compete MISS MENTONE — Anje Anglin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Anglin of r 5 Mentone, is representing her town in the fair queen contest this year. .Anje will be a senior at Mentone this fall. She is 17. Her hobbies are water skiing, snowmobiling. cycle riding and sewing. She is a cheerleader at school and a member of the Sunshine club, band and FTA. She is also a twirler. Anje is five, feet, six inches tall and weighs 126 pounds. She has blonde hair and brown eyes.
are the varsity and reserve teams from Elkhart Central high school, North Wood high school at Nappanee and the Tippecanoe Valley high school near Akron. Competition will begin with the reserve units in action at 8 a.m., followed by the varsity teams at 5.:30 a.m. Varsity teams have ve minutes to prove their talents, while the reserve units hive four. Sponsor, Pepster Hall, will award to the most outstanding senior girl (to be selected during regular competition) on a varsity squad: a $250 college scholarship, an allstar cheerleader jacket and trophy. Along with the honor, the teams will be competing for trophies and over SI,OOO in cash prizes (the top 10 in varsity and top five in reserve) The 1974 cheerleading contest is open to the public on the grounds free of charge. Last year’s winner, North Central of Indianapolis and runner-up Carmel are among the teams entered in the varsity division. Decatur Central of Indianapolis, and Washington, first and second in the ’73 contest, will also return.
