Week-long gala at fairgrounds Aug. 5-10
Livestock auction is set for Thursday p.m.
By VICTOR R. VIRGIL Extension Agent The 4-H club livestock sale will be held Thursday evening. Aug 8. beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Warsaw Rabbits and dairy-beef steers will be added to the sale for the first time this year. Five or six pens of rabbits and an estimated 10 head of dairy-beef will probably be sold The sale order will be sheep, rabbits, hogs and beef. Each 4H’er is limited to two sales. Last year's sale grossed over 8116.000. Lambs averaged 73 cents per pound, cattle, 69 cents per pound and hogs 89 cents per pound at last year s 4-H sale. It is estimated that this year’s sale will include approximately 150 steers. 150 hogs. 100 lambs. This year's sale committee intended to exclude hogs weighing over 240 pounds from the sale However, die rule was not included in the fair catalog, so hogs weighing over 240 pounds will be sold at a weight of 240 pounds rather than their actual heavier weight. Cattle under 750 pounds will not sell. Four-H'ers are not allowed to feed or water animate after 3p m on the day of the sale. Four-H members contribute three per cent of their gross cash value of lambs and rabbits, two per cent of hogs and one per cent of steers to be used for a barbecue for the buyers following the sale The barbecue is for the purpose of the 4-H’ers showing their appreciation to the buyers and is tentatively scheduled for September 11. First National Bank and Lake Qty Bank of Warsaw clerk the sale Buyers settle with the clerks and may consign their purchase directly to a stockyard. Production Credit Association also assists in making sure animate are consigned correctly. Shows Listed The open class sheep show will be held Weckwaday evening, Aug. 7. beginning at 6 p m Superintendent of the sheep department is Rudy Ross of near Sidney and Calvin Dodson is secretary. Sheep may be taken to the fairgrounds any time after 7 am. on show day and are released after the show. Emra Stookey. r 2 Milford, is in charge of the open dairy shows. Grandstand attractions include — Championship wrestling on Monday night; auto thrill show, Tuesday evening; auto racing on Wednesday evening; harness racing on Friday; and auto racing on Saturday evening The fair opens Sunday evening. Reigning Fair Queen — Londa Ellenwood Londa Ellenwood. striking 17-yeur-old blonde daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl A. Ellenwood of r 3 Warsaw, holds the 1973 Kosciusko County Fair queen title and will reign over next week's fair. Lawda tea 1974 graduate of Whitko high school. She is expected to he on hand to crown the new queen on Saturday night. Miss Kosciusko County Fair 1974 will he the 29th girt to be chosen to wear the title. She will be chosen by the voters who contribute one cent for each vote they wish to cast. The money is used for the county speech and hearing aid fond and for the Cardinal Learning Center. The annual contest te sponsored by the Alpha Beta and Xi Epsilon chapter* of Beto Sigma Phi sorority with the cooperation of the county fair board. This year's fair will get underway on Sunday with a gospel stag. The official opening is set for Monday night.
