Wawasee first in NLC baseball standings, Smith sets record
The Wawasee Warriors finished in first place in the Northern Lakes Conference baseball standings behind the record HH) pitching of 1974 graduate Mark Smith Smith s record beat the 9-C record of Tessar of Concord, sei in 1968 Smith was also named tc the first team Warriors Erique Paradis and Greg Fidler were also named tc the first team. Following is results of the Milford summer recreation program during the past week: The Milford girls softball team defeated the Lakeland Swingers twice last week. The first game score was 20-6 and the nightcap 8-5. Milford was led by Kathy Beer, Shelly Dahlstrom and Bea Carvajal. LitUe League Tigers 14 - Cards 7 The Tigers behind the strong pitching of Jay Auer defeated the Crads 14-7. Jay struck out eight of the nine Cards he faced in saving the game for Mark Evans. A 1968 graduate of Syracuse high school. Tom is also a 1974 graduate of Grace college, Winona Lake. Milford Pony League has one win, one loss The Milford Pony League teafi defeated North Webster 4-2 and lost to Sidney 3-0 last week. Leading hitters in the North Webster game were Andy Brown with two hits and two runs batted in and Tod Grove with one hit and two runs scored. R. Wuthrich pitched a fine game in picking up the win. Paul Steury had two doubles and a single. Brett Grove scored four runs for the Sox. Jim Salazar and Greg Weisser had two hits apiece for the Twins. Reds 15-Tigers 6 The Reds, behind the hitting of Tom Troup, defeated the Tigers 15-6. Tom had a single and two triples and knocked in seven runs for the winners. Mark Evans had three hits for the Tigers.

Inc., are finalizing plans to stage an open state wide shoot August 3 and 4 at the club's home range located between North Webster and Syracuse on county road 900 N just off the Syr-Web road. Archers from all over the state are expected to attend. Shooters need not be a member of any club to attend. A coon shoot will be held in the club owned woods on Saturday night. Aug, 3. beginning at dark. Lights and equipment of any type may be used on the 20 coon targets to be shot. Three trophies in four classes will be awarded as follows: Men's instinctive, men’s sight, women's and juniors under 12. The following day registration will begin at 9 a m for the big game round. Shooting will begin at 10 a m. Featured will be 40 laminated colored animal targets set in actual wooded conditions. Three trophies in four classes will be awarded in this event. Limited camping will be available on the club grounds as well as newly constructed rest rooms. Food will be provided both Saturday night and Sunday. Numerous prizes will be awarded. Club members are hopeful that this endeavor can become an annual event uniting all archers throughout the state in one common goal — the enjoyment of their sport. Milford woman hits steel post Sara D. Hochstetler. 40, r 2 Milford, escaped injury Monday at 2 p m when the 1968 Rambler she was driving crashed into a steel post along Indiana IS north of CR 23 in Jackson township The Hochstetler woman was southbound on 15 at 40 miles per hour when she braked for a vehicle ahead of her and her car slid off the road and hit the post. Elkhart county sheriff's Ptl. Richard Method investigated and set damage at S3OO.

Lake Tippecanoe Sailing club has active summer of regattas
The Lake Tippecanoe Sailing club has had an active summer hosting a number of regattas, both for class racing and open categories. John Emerick, a member of the sailing club, won the catamaran class in the regatta held Saturday, July 6. on Lake Wawasee. Emerick is the leader in the Hobie 16 class in the summer series sponsored by the sailing club. The Lake Tippecanoe Sailing club will host open class racing (any sailboats may enter the handicapped races) on July 27. The club will sponsor a warmup regatta Saturday, Aug. 3, for the super porpoise class. later in August and it is planned that a number of sailors will be at these nationals representing the dub. Open class racing will be held Saturday, Aug. 10 and Saturday, Aug. 24. The 10th annual Lake Tippecanoe Labor Day Regatta will be held September 1 and 2. All dasses of sailing crafts may enter this regatta which has brought entries from a wide area. The final regatta of the 1974 season will be the Tippecanoe Lightening Regatta September 7 and 8. The sailing club welcomes sailing skippers from other lakes in the Warsaw area to participate in any of the races. Interested skippers should write to Kitty Pierce.
