Gas, oil bids studied by Lakeland schools

Following the opening of gas and fuel oil bids at Tuesday night's Lakeland school board meeting the board decided to table a decision until the August meeting to give business manager Marion Lantz time to study same. No firm bids were received Standard Oil sent a letter stating it would continue to supply gasoline to the school corporation and would supply oil A bid from Farm Bureau said the Kosciusko county company would supply 95.000 gallons of number two fuel oil with price increases or decreases being passed on to the school. Current price is 30.4 cents. A second bid from Farm Bureau offered gasoline at the posted price at time of delivery’ The current price is 36 4 cents plus tax Lantz shid the eight cent state road tax must be paid by schools thus making the gaoline 44.4 cents. The resignation was effective July 11. Miss Snellgrove taught two years in the Lakeland schools. Three teachers were recommended for employment for the coming school year. All were accepted Miss Josette Borchers will be employed as an art teacher for the North Webster junior high and elementary school. She is a student at Ball State and will graduate in August Larry Robbins will be teaching science at the North Webster junior high school. He is a graduate of Anderson high school three years experience Miss Rebecca Geible will replace Miss Snellgrove at Syracuse She is a graduate of Indiana Central and is another first year teacher The Geibies are former Syracuse residents. Business manager Lantz discussed the policy manuel with board members and several minor changes were made. Lantz requested permission to keep one of the school buses which was to have been traded in

as a spare bus Lantz explained the corporation usually keeps four spare buses, the necessity of a new route would take the spares down to three. He further explained these buses are used at the Milford scools. the North Webster schools, the Syracuse schools and at Wawasee high school. They are used for short athletic trips, to replace a newer bus on a longer athletic trip and for replacement buses while another is being repaired. Lantz also said it is time again to advertise for insurance bids. He is working on specifications which will also be reviewed by board president Bill Little before they are released next month. The bids will be accepted at the board's November meeting. Seely shows Hawaiian slides to Milford Lions Former Lions club district governor D. G. Seely showed slides of the Pearl Harbor disaster of December 7, 1941. at the Milford Lions club Monday night. He purchased the slides and a taped commentary during a trip to Honolulu and several outer islands. The Seelys made the trip following their attendance erf the International Lions convention at San Francisco Lion Al Miller, immediate past president, took the occasion to
