B Miller of Winona Lake. The Millers motivated by their love for children and concern that there were no church facilities available in .the center of the Barbee resort area, started holding Sunday school classes at the Barbee Conservation club building In December of 1965 Barbee • Illustrated Sunday school was officially incorporated under the law* ' the state of Indiana as B«> Nondenominational Co y church. At the time of T!< <. poration the church’s U membership consisted of approximately 6 adults and 12 children The present church building stands on ground donated by Mr. and Mrs Charles Kuhn and additional property purchased by the church congregation. The church recently purchased C more propetty in accordance with proposed plans for further expansion. Rev. Phay Plummer, now retired, was the church’s first full time pastor. Following Rev. Hummer’s retirement Rev. Don Shoemaker served as pastor before accepting a call as pastor to Los Altos Brethren Church. Long Beach, Calif. Rev. Bryce H. Foster, r 1 Leesburg, is the church’s present pastor The Barbee church building was constructed by members of the congregation who donated many hours of time, material physical labor and financial assistance. The congregation purchased the old Troy Presbyterian church building, tore it down and used alt salvagable material to help build the new church. > Os special interest are the beautiful stained glass windows that were formerly in the old Troy building. The inscribed names of persons and groups who donated the windows to the Troy church, as memorials, have been left intact and are the subject of much interest to first time visitors at the church After the old building was purchased the Troy congregation redonated its purchase price to the Barbee church to help speed construction of the new building.
